Needle trouble!

Hey guys, heres the deal, i ordered some reverse glow gaues for my 97Z, anyways my friend and i put them in.. the problem is.. for some reason the needles arent acting right, my speedo needle acts like it is sticking, and its reading High, and its also not going always flat when the car is off. The gas gauge is reading lower than should be, and so is the Temp.. oil seems ok, tach is ok, battery is ok when running, but when the car is off the needle falls all the way down til it hits the plastic molding... what can i do guys? when we did the install we followed the directions and everything, did the drawing and all that stuff, how can i fix it or do i have to take it to the chevy place?

If the new gauge overlay bubbles up and touches the needles, even slightly, they will stick. Find out exactly where those spots are and use some double sided tape, or a little spot of glue if you prefer, to prevent the new overlay from touching the needles.

Did you remove the needles when you installed the new overlay?.

You needed to have marked the exact position of the needles with the ignition on before removing them, and then installed them in exactly the same spot with the ignition on. The needles are not self aligning. You will probably have to go back and readjust the temp and gas gauge needles this way. Im not sure about the tach and speedo. I think the tach is self aligning.

the tach is going fine.. no worries there.. ah.. that may be the trouble. we marked them, but not with the engine running.. so how can i figure out where they belong? i mean, i can fill up my tank with gas so its full... but what about the temp gauge? where should a stock z be running?

The engine doesnt have to be running. Just switch the ignition to the accesory position.

I just did the same thing. I took the needles off without marking them. I think i got them all good except the temp gauge, i dont want to take a chance with that, because i just did the head gaskets. Let us know how you make out?

aight guys... heres the update.... i did everything i was told to do, reset the gauges with the ignition on... gas is doing good now, bat is good, oil is good, however... i still have too much difference between my tach and speedo i reset the speedo to zero with the ignition on... however.. i guess i bumped my tach or something while doing so because it was sticking some.. anyways i fixed that, and its around 900-1000rpm idle.. right? anyways soo somewhere im getting lag in one of the needles, because because for example i could do 30mph at 2000rpm in 3rd gear, well now, it says im doing around 35mph when in 3rd around 2000rpm... however it comes back down to zero when im stopped.. also its moving fine now no sticking, just had it pushed in to far... and last but not least my temp gauge is all kinda messed up.. it was reading semi fine before hand, but now i can be driving for a couple hours and it reads 160.... soo i guess im gonna have to try and work on that again or something i dunno, does anyone have any suggestions???

It really depends on the car. If you are looking to get an accurate reading, find somebody with a scan tool that can tell you want your temperature is and then set the needle accordingly.

I'll move this to the Appearance Section...
