New pictures of the Z28, and my sister's new car
My sister has finally had the good fortune to be able to retire the Z28 from daily driving duties and has gotten a brand new Buick Lacrosse CXL (which, to my surprise, is an extremely sweet ride). It has 280 hp, and is the most comfortable riding car I've ever been in. You don't even have to scoot the front seats forward to be able to ride in the back, and at 6 feet tall, I still have about 4 inches from the back of the seat to my knees. Crazy huh? The looks of it remind us of a baby Bentley. It isn't quite sexy enough to be cool, but it does have its angles. It also has remarkable paint, it barely has any orange peel at all, check out the reflections even in these pics before it was detailed by the dealer.
The funny story about it is: this car was her loaner car from the dealership while the optispark and spark plugs were being changed on the Z28. She drove it about a week, wanted to lease one just like it but with a sunroof, they said she couldn't have the one she'd been driving because it was a demo for an employee to drive, but they came back the next day and said she could have it because their inventory was wrong and they didn't have the one with the sunroof their system said they had.

Re: New pictures of the Z28, and my sister's new car
Because of the Z28 finally getting a break in the 16 years we've owned it, racking up 97k miles, I decided to wash it and fully clean the interior (since I hadn't been able to do much to the car the past couple of years). Cleaning the interior was honestly a stupid idea in the 100 degree heat, because I think it nearly killed me . It had been at the dealership so much lately what with the waterpump going bad, the A/C needing almost every part replaced, and ultimately the dreaded optispark going bad and messing up the spark plugs with only about 3k miles on them... ... that it really needed a thorough bath.
I gave it a nice wash, nothing special, and then spent about 4 hours on the interior--mostly because I discovered I still had a bottle of Meguiars leather cream and quick interior detailing mist that I've never used.
The leather soaked up the cream like hands and lotion. In fact, I applied it with my right hand and now have very soft fingers LOL. I think my hand worked much better than the towel the bottle recommends. When buffing, the towel removed a lot of color, which scared me at first, but I think it was all dirt and grease from the mechanics being in it. The driver's seat was the only seat that really made the towel change color to brown/gray. It didn't make the seats shiny, which I appreciate, but it did make the leather stand out as obvious as leather among all the vinyl pieces on the side and back that I didn't use any products on. After seeing 16 years of wear on the seats, I kind of now understand why GM didn't use leather on all of the panels, it just gets too dry. I wish that they used vinyl on the top portion of the rear bench, as that was the most dry of all.
The driver's seat still looks pretty darn good after all these years compared to most I've seen.
The interior detailing spray did a good job I think too. Cleaned all the surfaces, got a little dirt off it and didn't make anything shiny.
I drove it to a car show at 6pm last night in Plano, TX. The car drove like a dream other than the rear spring squeaking and a peculiar sound from the rear at low speed at one point (don't think it was the differential... oddly it sounded to me like something was unbolted or a bolt was loose...?). The sound only happened when I came home and pulled into the parking lot and sounded like two pieces of metal shifting... kind of like the UPS truck going over a speed bump .

Re: New pictures of the Z28, and my sister's new car
I gotta say... there's nothing like driving your first car, and nothing like driving a Camaro. All the pains of ownership are always worth it just to keep the car alive. Some people have a love/hate relationship with owning a car, especially for an extended period of time, but my family's relationship with this car has always been love.
