Question before putting tint on my windows.

My windows are scratched from going up and down in my 2000 TA. (From what I know its a common problem with the f-body.) If i put tint on them will I have to worry about it being scratched off or messed up becasue of the scratch marks? Also anyone have a website link showing whats legal tint from state to state and some examples of what different percentages of tint look like. This would help me a lot. Thanks.

My Beretta with 15% on all 5 windows. FYI I got pulled over and had to rip the tint off the front two a couple weeks ago. 70% transparent is whats legal in NY.

Wow thanks guys. 15% looks like what I want. It says ohio is 50% for front side windows. I have no idea what that means. Does that mean 15% is cool?

I believe so. I would say just go ahead and do it. Depends on how strict they are in your area. In IL we can't have the front windows tinted but in the past 8 years of driving, all of my windows have been tinted on every vehicle I've owned and I haven't got stopped. I honestly wouldn't be to concerned about the police IMO.

Re: Question before putting tint on my windows.

the percentage the amount of visibility that you can see throught the tint.. so 50% would mean you have 50% visibility through the glass..

So whats the 15 percent mean? It tints it 15% so you can see through 85%?

Re: Question before putting tint on my windows.

Those nasty scratch marks are caused from dirt, grit or tiny pebbles caught between the window and weather stripping. Do the tint and if you don't like it just remove it.

No. The % is light transmission through the film. Low % is darker -high % is lighter.

Re: Question before putting tint on my windows.

50% is like factory tint, really light. Limo tint is like 5% or 0%, can't remember which. 15% is dark, you can just barely see through it (in a camaro atleast, since there's not a lot of places for light to come in). I did limo on the hatch and 35% on the sides of my Camaro, any tint on the sides of the front window here in MI is technically illegal but as long as they can see in it's ok.

Ah, yes. But you had picked 50% in your example which was a poor choice. So then zachw1036 replied with:

"So whats the 15 percent mean? It tints it 15% so you can see through 85%?"

Which is the opposite of the way it works. 15% means you only get 15% light transmission. Simply put, lower % equals darker tint.
