Safe to remove the mat underneath the stock hood?

Safe to remove the mat underneath the stock hood?

Mine is all torn up, and part got caught on the alt fan...

Would I be safe to just remove it??

Ya, all the aftermarket fiberglass hoods don't have any of that matting.

Yeah, you should be OK, since I know my '01 didn't have it from the factory and I have heard this from other people too.

Mime is a 2000 and never did have it. I think it looks tacky anyways

Those arent to protect your hood. Notice its held on by plastic caps. In case of engine fire, the caps melt and the mat drops. That way when your dumbass opens the hood in case of engine fire, it acts as a flame blanket and you dont get fried.

Yep. But you can still remove the thing. A smart person would just walk away from their car if they saw smoke coming from the engine, vs. opening it up and take a peek.
