Think I should paint my car SOM???

Right now, my car is purple pearl metallic, and it is the only one I have seen around here. But I love the sunset orange metallic color, and I would love to have my car painted that color. Now this may sound stupid, but what do you think I should have repainted? Remove the doors, and hinged, and have booth painted. I mean, the hinges are the same color as the car right? I have a new hood waiting to go on, so get that painted seperately, along with having the hatch painted completely, off of the car.

Then remove almost all interioir pieces and have the inside door sills and everything painted? I can do all of that work myself, as well as all of the body work, including molding the gfx I have, and shaving a few things, so do you think it would really cost a whole lot more? I am guessing maybe $700 or $800 more, since they will just have to do a little more paint work, and not remove anything. I didn't mention anything about under the hood, because I am going to leave that purple until the engine swap which will be done about a year after the paint. It is not worth the hassle of removing everything just to get the bay painted.

And what all is required in prepping a car for paint? Will the shop sand it down, then completely primer the cat, then paint it? Thanks guys

Thanks guys, I needed some convincing. As far as I know, I should be the second one on the board to do this to an LT1. That color is just awesome.

Still would like some advice on the bodywork, like what is done before and after painting. I wan tto know what I am talking about when I bring it in in the spring. Should look sweet on my Fomula, with the gfx and big block hood, and hopefully ttop conversion if I get the ***** to try that.

Well, I have a lot of work ahead of me. I still have to mold on my gfx and the ings west spoiler, and shave the antenna and stuff like that. It should look real awesome though. I am gonna get it painted in the spring, since there is no point in getting it painted and put in storage right away.

I like that purple color(if the paints still good), I think you should spend that 3,000-4,000 ud spend on paint speeding that LT1 up...you could be cookin for about 1500-2000 bucks

Yeah, I am thinking I might stay with my color now. Either way, I need new paint. Plus, I have gfx and a hood waiting to go on, so I might as well get the whole car painted.

That is correct.

I say go for it - it's the best color on an F-Body - aside from black.

Go for it! It's sweet and there isn't a whole lot of them around. Here's another pic of SOM on a LT1. This pic shows off the color a lot better.

LOL SOM is OK I guess

Kinda funny my 93 was purple pearl that is a pretty cool color too. I REALLY liked the SOM but in my opinion I'd stick with the purple pearl repait it. It will be much cheaper and that color holds its own. Here is a pic of mine after I put the WS6 speedline rims on it:

I think with a new paint job and my Fikse's on my 93 it would hold its own to my new ride.
