Tinted clearcoat

Does anyone sell a spray on clearcoat that is very slightly tinted? I got the new Super Chevy mag and in it they use a spray gun with clearcoat with a small amount of black mixed in to smoke the tailights and I think it looks AWESOME! I want slightly darker taillights but I dont want to buy covers, plus I like the very stock look of the tailights.

Re: Tinted clearcoat

Where did you get the paint for it? And how many coats did you use? Cuz I was hoping for something were you can still clearly see the colors of the tailights, it just looks slightly tinted.

Re: Tinted clearcoat

ever heard of niteshades paint? its a spray tint made specifically for that, one coat would be exactly what you want if this stuff is the same.

Re: Tinted clearcoat

I mixed some factory onyx black with some clear and sprayed my lights after I sanded the letters smooth. I kept having to add black to get it dark enough. I had some clear left over from some other parts I was painting so I just kind of made it up as I went along. I ended up putting 4 coats on to make it tinted but not totally black. I only have one pic with the tinted tails on as I got a set of exports.

This stuff looks purplish in the light and is pretty dark. I would just mix a little black with clear.

Re: Tinted clearcoat

I've heard people say you can have NAPA(and probably other paint stores) mix up any paint you want and put it in an aerosol can. Not sure about doing it with clear though since it is a base and hardner and has a limited pot life.

mine seemed pretty black even in the light, and it took about 4 coats to go my turn signals black as i wanted them. *shrug* good option if he cant get the paint mixed in an aerosol can though
