What do you think I should do with this hood

What do you think I should do with this hood
These pics are a few years old and the hoods just been sitting I guess I should figure out how to finish it 
My two thoughts are finish cutting out the insert....but I worry the hood integrity might be compromised at that point
or leave it the way it is and highlight somehow whats left of the insert after the hood is painted
Any suggestions
