Where to buy chrome alternator?

My alternator is done for on my car and has been confirmed. Since local parts stores want $200 for a new one and dont have them in stock I'm just going to get a chrome alt. Where can I get one that will work on an LT1???

I honestly can't help you with the exact amps and stuff you will need to match your alternator now...but check out www.jegs.com and www.summitracing.com I know I have seen them in one of their catalogs.

Thanks I'll try there. If not I'll just polish one I buy which will probably be what happens.

i bought my chrome one at summit racing about a month ago. dont remember the exact price but it was a 140 amp one. they said that was the only chrome one they had for my year camaro and it was listed under the caprice stuff, but works perfect for a camaro. all the i had to do was turn the rear housing of the alternator around a quarter turn and it fits right up. took me all of about 3 minutes to turn it.

Aircop40,
Could you please provide a part number. What did you mean by..."turning the rear housing around..." ?
Thanks!

I used to sell GM parts so I'll wing this one. Sometimes on various different alternators the only difference is the location of the plugs/connectors on the back of the unit. As long as the amperage is correct all you need to do to make different (or universal OEM replacement) alternators fit other models is to rotate the back-half of the housing. (You might also need to swap pulleys.)

There are also several companies that sell just the chrome housings out there, so you can simply swap in the guts out of your alternator and get that chromed look.

ahhh sorry i forgot to throw up that part number for you. its from Summit Racing and the part number is PWM-17805. the price was 319.95, but its a really nice looking part. ditto what jg95z28 emplained about the universal thing. just remove the four bolts holding the two housings together and spin the back housing around to where it will line up with your alternator brackets then rebolt it together. easy as that
