I used alsacorps' jet black and speed clear killer can IMO that is the best looking paint you can get in a spray can

Thanks, did you have any problems when you painted it? More direct question: could someone who has never painted anything on a car before(me) do it without screwing it up?(I'd rather find out now than after spending $50 on paint and botching the part)

 

For a novice I would say the simplest way to do it with the least chance of screwing it up would be to get a scuff pad to create a surface for the paint to adhere to, go to your local auto store (out here I go to kragen) and get some prep spray to make sure there are no oils or dirt on the surface and a tack cloth to wipe down the piece right before you start spraying to get off any lint or dust particles. Scuff the taillights, spray em with prep spray, let em dry for about 5 mins, wipe em down with tack cloth then start spraying but if you've never painted anything before the most important thing to remember is DO NOT spray thick coats I think with that alsa its 2 light coats then one medium always start the spray ahead of the piece and don't let go til you've passed it. The black shouldn't give you any problems it's the clear coat that'll give you a headache if you lay it on too thick just remember light coats and be patient in between coats if im not mistaken it's 15 minutes between coats with that clear coat or until the paint is tacky what I do is have a piece of paper underneath the piece Im painting that spreads out about 6 inches or so past it so that way when you're painting and you spray past the piece you can touch the paper and see if its tacky instead of touching the piece and messing it up. I was spraying some interior pieces for a lexus a couple weeks ago and got lazy and didnt put the paper down I touched the piece and ended up having to do it all over again cause I dont think they would've liked my fingerprint in the paint jobso unless that fingerprint is gonna be your signature lay down the paper lol.....
