Post Kuhmo questions....

Alright...

what do you guys think of

Kuhmo Ecsta 711, 245/50HR16
$60 a tire
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....tnum=45HR6E711

Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 Size 245/50WR16
$85 a tire
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....num=45WR6ES712

Kumho VictoRacer V700 - Size 245/45ZR16
$135 a tire
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....num=445ZR6V700

Or any other affrordable tires. Affordability is pretty much #1, but thes are going to be a track only tire, should I jsut wait and blow the big bucks on the tires.

OOOOOO

what about these?

Yokohama AVS Intermediate - Size 245/45ZR16
$57
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....rtnum=445ZR6I2

By the way remeber my car is a v6, so an extremly wide tire is not neccesary.

If they are for the track, the v700 victoracers are the only valid choice on the list. If you are looking for some cheap, I have a set that are getting worn, but still good and want to get my set of Hoosiers on for a track record attempt (must take Kumho's off to mount the Hoosiers). I'd sell the set of 4 for $95 plus shipping (about $35).

Once you try sticky tires, you won't even want to do practice laps on street tires.

Like Bob said... if this is for track use then the Victoracer is the only tire of those selected to choose from.

If you are buying for street use...I wouldn't select the Victoracer since they might only last for 3-4,000 miles.

What about these for someone that doesnt have a xtra set of rims and does some streeting & tracking.Yokohama AO32R these good? BF Goodrich G-force T/A KD?Falken Azenis?
All Z way,Bob, Does Kumho use different rubber compounds between theyre tires? so you wouldnt get the sticky rubber say choosing the Ecsta MX(considering these or BFG KDS),verses the v700?
If I had a extra set of rims Mustangeater get the v700 or a hoosier.
I dont want to be slipping around getting on freeways(rain)& such when not at track.

Edited out links on tires that didnt work

BobC:

What are the dimmensions of the tires, and what size rims do I need to put them on my car? How much longer do these tires have?

I am really interested in these tires at that price. Shoot me an email and let me know what is what...

I recently purchased the Ecsta 712's. I am pretty happy with them. They were a huge improvement over my old goodyears at Autocross. If these tires are going to be a street/autoX, I would chose the Kumho's, or that killer deal on the Yokohama's. Those Yok's are discontinued, by the way, but they were one of the best tires out there in their day.

my personal opinion is the BFG G Force KD's are awesome, but you could spend a lot less on race tires and be faster.

You may also want to consider picking up a set of stock wheels (slp has take off firebird wheels for $50 each) and getting the Victo Racer, cause there wouldn't be anything better. There is not one other single change you can make that will improve your times better than race rubber.

BS, they will fit fine. I've seen them mounted on a pair of 16" 5 star Camaro rims with my own eyes. The people mounting them for you must not have been doing it right.

Eric: If you're intrested in the AVS Intermediates talk to Chuck, he's running a set as auto-x tires. I'm thinking about them myself but they are ~1" shorter than stock 245/50/16's which I dont like. Plus the treadwear is only 160 so they'll be pretty short lived.

The Ecsta 711's are all season tires correct? If so they proably wont handle as well as the 712's. The price is right though!

Like everyone else said the V700's are desiged purely as a auto-x/open track tire. Very sticky but you'll wear them out in a matter of weeks if you use them everyday.

Edit: Personally I'm waiting for a new tire from Yokohama called the ES100. They're out now but they wont be available in a 245/50/16 size till November according to their website (just as well for me as I need to find another job before I buy anything. They are priced about as much as the 712's but hopefully they will be a better performer.

Don't forget about the Toyo RA1s. They are a very long lasting track tire and definitely worth considering. They are a shade slower than the Kumho V700, but last at least twice as long. Unless you are seriously racing, they are your best bet IMO.

The ES100 don't look like good tires. Apparently Yokohoma is becoming complacent in their tire design The new Parada Spec-2 comes in 225 as widest and the ES100 isn't designed for maximum handling. I guess their business department figured out that there's more money to be made there....

The Kumho Ecsta MX's (note: I'm slightly biased as I have them) are pretty incredible - at $159/tire when I bought them (275/40/17) they're about half the price of the KD's while providing similar (slightly slower) performance. Check out the most recent issue of Grassroots Motorsports for more information.

All I know - they run great. Significantly faster (approx 2 sec or so) than my old Yok AVS-i's (245/50/16). Note size change, though.

Well if you want a tire designed for max handling just run some Hoosiers slicks

But seriously why do you say they wont handle well? Apparently they're very new and I didnt think anyone had any experience with them since they dont have sizers out for our cars yet. A few guys on tirerack.com seem to like them so far but I dont see to many negative reviews there either.

IMO the Parada is one freaky looking tire, i saw one on a ricer and had to do a double take. Although when I saw his triplane spoiler and the rest of his car the tires seemed mundane

I'd like a set of Ecsta MX's but they dont come in 245/50/16's and I cant afford 17" tires and rims at the moment. Plus I'm trying to stay under $100 a tire. In that price range it looks like either the Ecsta 712 or (maybe) the ES100 are my choices. I'm running a set of Potenza RE730's (gen I) now and I like them but they are too noisy and they've gone up in price quite a bit since I bought them 2yrs ago.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize the MX's don't come in 245/50/16

I guess more of what I meant was that Yok hasn't come out with a tire that challenges the KD/MX/Falken Azenis league. The ES100 is a fine tire, but for a brand new "performance" tire to be in the same league as the Ecsta 712 (which is what it seems to be...reference is GRM, though...) is somewhat disappointing.

By the way yokohama AVS intermediates are discontinued but www.tirerack.com is celaring out ther inventory, hence the $57 a tire for 245/45/16.

I am not worried about tread life, these woudl be track only tires, not street tires. I know v700 are the best, but they are also $135 a tire. The yoko Intermeidiates, are less then half the cost, I can get all 4 shipped for the price of 2 not including shipping v700s.

Either way I may have to hold off, may need to blow a couple hundred on school stuff.

Tire Rack has the 245/50/16 G-force TA KDs $114 per,Might get those.Scott
The Kumho 712 did get good reviews GRM,says" nearly the grip of the KDS",but" they actually got stickier as they got hot". Good issue Dan,mostly tires. I liked the Open track Challenge issue.Sept.
some of the siping on the 712 ,seems like after hot would get alot of rocks inbedded, stuff.
