ProudPony - My apologies, if my remarks bothered you. Guess the "go visit Stangnet" stuff was over the line. Of course I welcome your posting here (it's really not up to me, but I'm glad to see your opinions). If GM is reading this stuff, they need to know what Ford owners think too. I also believe you about your not being just a Ford fan, but also a muscle car fan in general. I like more than GM too although obviously I'm quite partial to GM's (gee who would have guessed ). As such I have a reaction when people seem to be coming down on GM. I hope you keep posting here.

On the statement I made:

Maybe there was a better way to word it... it was intended to say that yes, that is a 2002 Cobra in the field of Nations Cup; no, it would not be there IF the 2003 were already out when the field was chosen - the 2003 would instead be preferred; and yes, Holden has a leg up in the race because it was first to market with the Monaro and its modern performance chassis - a chassis which is and will be legendary.

There are things I don't like about all cars. If GM is reading this, I aim to inform. I've already said I don't like the age of the current Mustang platform, and listed what else I don't like. It's part of why I plan to mod my Formula more, and why I feel justified in comparing modded vs. stock vehicles. That said, Ford and SVT have done wonders with the new Cobra's handling, made it virtually neutral in a car actually now more nose-heavy than before, and I have no doubt the DEW-lite or C170 Mustang in 04 will be a beaut... I hope it looks like the pix I have seen, such as Motor Trend's rendition looking like a 69 fastback! Just what we need to get GM moving on the next Camaro!

BDnF, no apology necessary. You, like Ude, are passionate about cars - and that is a great thing. I encourage the energy. Also, I truely hope you can see that I don't want to come across as "bashing" GM. I just want to see them get a little better - especially at giving CAR ENTHUSIASTS what they want, not just SUV buyers.

When it comes to buying - I have my preferences like you do. But when it's not my money, anything goes. The company where I work is a primary supplier (preferred in many cases) of OEM supplies for GM, so needless to say we use mostly GM rentals when we travel (which is alot). It gives me ample opportunity to drive GM products on road trips and often for days on end. I really do like some of their products.

I'll tell you this for certain... If Ford laid down on me today, I'd hop in a GM tomorrow without a second thought. Then if GM laid down on me, I'd have to jump into a Dodge - ugh. The last thing you will find me in is a Toyota. Honda ain't much above the Toy, but I did enjoy my Honda TL-125 trials bike when I was a kid so... I'll give them a little lift for that.

As far as your opinion of the Muskrat goes - you are never alone. Example: you and about 1.2 million 5.0/4.6 Mustang buyers all don't like that it still rides and handles like a '78 Fairmont with stiff shocks - me included. It's a definite sore-spot for us. But in a late-as-usual concession, Ford is finally on track to fix this for us in '04. Then the Muskrat is gonna ride/handle like a Lincoln LS with stiffer shocks?!?! My point is, I don't take your criticism of the 'Tang (or any car FTM) negatively when you make a valid point with good verbage... I even concur with you often. It's when opinions get stated as facts or unjustified accusations get made that I get my drawers in a wad. Then I, like you, rise to defend my position. So I know where you are coming from in defense of GM and the cars you love. I think it's cool.

Side note for you about me and GM - I know Richard Childress well. I went to high school with his daughter Tina (and she's in my HS yearbook BTW). My dad and I made the very FIRST aluminum restrictor plates for Richard Childress Racing in our tool and die shop in Winston-Salem, NC back in the '80s. Bobby Hutchens (and his dad, Bud) are also valued friends of mine. I know Randy Dorton, and several of the guys in Rick Hendrick's operation too. I went to school at UNC-Charlotte with many of the guys in their engine program, taking metallurgy and mechanical engineering classes together. I live less than 4 miles from Junior Johnson and about 12 miles from Richard Childress. I work about 4 miles from the RCR shops in Welcome, NC and see their guys out at lunch often. SO I SWEAR - if you think anybody on this board can rag on me any harder about being a Ford guy than the crowd I just listed off - you need psychiatric attention! Maybe they are all why my skin is so thick? LOL!

BDnF - I think we're good on things!
Like I said w/Ude... let's talk cars...

I hope you did read in my first reply that I am happy to see someone still persuing big-block applications in this era. If one (427) can beat CAFE regulations here stateside, be cost-moderate, and get low-emission too, I'd be all over it personally. I encourage the development of the 7.0, and hope it proves itself - as that can only help GM and others who may stay with the musclecars to review their use of cubic inches in the future. And that would be good IMHO!

If it is the same 7.0L used in the C5-R, it is a 427ci small block!

I have to say that ford actually did something right with there mustangs. SVT wanted to make a n/a motor to compete with the late camaro, but realized that it was a whole lot cheaper to stick an eaton supercharger on it. This was proven by the lightnings. They also couldn't get the power and torque out of the 4.6l engine. There is also alot more done to that mustang motor than stock, they did a lot of internal engine work to that motor. It is by far stock and svt has stated that. I will keep my 4th gen because I have yet to meet a mustang with about the same mods beat me. I even beat a 96 gt with a lot of mods, and supercharged. Sorry, but 390 at the fly supercharged or a na small block 5.7l ss or ws6 with "325hp" at the fly, "cough cough" I will keep my chevy. Minor bolt ons and i am competing with the 03 cobra's and a cam and an intake (which the 03 cobra comes with) and will destroy a cobra. Never will I purchase a mustang again.....

Please pardon my confusion, but don't all Mustangs and F-body's come with a cam(s) and intake? Or are you implying that the cams and intake in the new Cobra is actually aftermarket, even though it came from the factory that way?
