For a good idea of what GM internal politics is like, read the book All Corvettes Are Red. It's about the design of the C5 Corvette, which started around 1988 or 1989, to debut originally as a 1993 model. My guess is that (please correct me if I'm wrong anyone), the internal climate at GM hasn't changed much; they're not lying when they say things change daily.

There's a reason Rick Waggoner is now in charge of GMNA.

So, lemme get this straight. Scott Freaking Settlemire knows less about what's going on with Camaro development than you do. Ok, just wanted to get that one right.

LOL

There are still lots of uninformed people out there that still don't get it, even when one of the guys behind the actual car posts.

Just to highlight a few things:

Scott was Camaro brand manager. He KNOWS exactly what is going on and will burst if he isn't allowed to tell people within 2 years.

He was at the styling clinics where a sporty Chevy coupe scored higher than ANY other Chevy in history, why do you think HE was there?

He was at the press preview, why was he there AGAIN?

Lots of big bold arrows pointing to NAIAS 2006.

If you really don't get it from these hints then you REALLY need your head examined!

Maybe you can tell us if the existing GM RWD coupe known as GTO gets the big axe next year.
In the future, you may want to educate yourself a bit before you pull your head out of your *** to put your foot in your mouth.

I'm pretty sure he can get his foot in his mouth WHILST having it up his ***.

There seems to be more room up there than anyone would have thought possible...

It's not complaining about conjecture. It seems to be on pretty good authority that the new Camaro will now be a retro design similar to the Mustang so if you read what I wrote, I said that IF this is the direction taken, then I will be pretty dissapointed. I don't think that this is out of line or jumping the gun. I am aware that no one has seen the car yet but the way I feel about retro design doesn't change just because Chevy decided to go this way.

I concur...

I think it's pretty well known that I've not been a fan of retro styled vehicles ("Just say NO! to Retro" ) ...though I did think the GTO nameplate would have been a case for doing it, since the name had been gone for 30 years.... but anyway...

I now have two distinct reasons to not want a retro themed Camaro:

1) I just think it's a dead end styling-wise, not to mention being unoriginal... aka "The Old Reason".

2) Now it will look like a blatant "copycat" maneuver by Chevy... aka "The New Reason".

For each anti retro argument, there are a million pro's. As long as it looks good, why do you really care where the inspiration came from????? If the Camaro went retro with the styling of a 1920's milk truck, I could understand your disappointment. But freaking come on..........has there really been a bad looking car in all 4 generations???? I think not.

I'll third that.

Funny how this went from something we could all get something positive from to grating on everyone's nerves again.....

No there hasn't, a big part of that is each successive generation has been evolutionary (or revolutionary in the case of the 2nd and 3rd gens) and made you go 'wow' when you saw it.

Retro design is like watching a cover band, it's nice and all but just doesn't have the magic of the original and isn't worth alot of your trouble to see. So you'll have to pardon us with a little higher expectations that 'give me anything I'll like it no matter what'.

The rest of the world seems to get it. A few of you guys dont. You associate old with bad. Everything new comes from being inspired by things in the past. There is nothing tired about good ideas from the past being brought up to date on new cars. There were the same guys yelling that the mustang would flop becuase fo retro styling. They were right...........I guess otherwise it would be selling 500k per year?? Whatever your hangup is, a good looking car is a good looking car no matter what decade the designer was inspired from. Lets see what the car looks like before bashing it out of an irrational hate for that buzzword "retro".

I don't think many in are 100% bashing the idea here, just expressing their preference.

I've said several times already that I've pretty much given in to the idea that it will be retro... even though I'm not wild about the idea.
