Bob Lutz Interview in Motion (GM's Canadian magazine)

I really hope it is a Camaro type concept. At least give us some hope that a 5th gen is on it's way. Yet, on the other hand, it will probably end up being something like a supercharged Ecotec Cavalier...

I'm thinking a production version of the Solstice, or a Camaro. Did anyone know the Solstice was going to be at last year's show? I bet a two door version of the SS concept will be the basis for a new Camaro at this years show.

I can see it now....the big unveiling in January of....
The Chevy Suburban XXL!!!!
The Chevy Suburban XXL!!!!
Or the:
6 wheel drive Hummer H3. GM's big idea is to convince all the SUV Lemmings that 4WD is less safe (unsafe even) in the snow and rain, since it doesn't offer the traction of 6WD. It will also feature the "cow catcher" front bumper that will safely push cars and other SUV's out of the way and into the ditch upon impact and Super HID headlamps that automatically aim directly at the rear window of cars in front, reducing glare to the H3 driver.

I know that GM hasn't given us anything to be hopeful about, regarding the "Camaro" brand, but how come you guys are so negative about it?
GM has stated that Camaro is one of the most recognized names in the industry. I think it was the fifth most recognized. This means that they will want to exploit it, at some point. Now is a good time.
GM needs a FAST import killer that is:
Compact
FAST AS HELL
Cheaper than the imports
Sunfire and Cavalier just don't fit there (read: FAST AS HELL), Impala and Monte Carlo are too big.
The fact that they have the CAMARO ENTHUSIASTS not believing in the possability of a Camaro concept so soon after shutting down production would make it a "huge surprise". Remember that this hint of a surprise came right after Lutz was asked about how it only took five months to create solstice, which no one here had ANY idea about.
GM has already announced the supercharged versions of the W-body cars, has it not? Which would not make this a huge surprise.
Solstice is going to see production, we all know this. This is no huge surprise.
C6 is a fact, we all know this. Again, no huge surprise. And seeing it won't be a huge surprise either, unless it looks like a totally different car.
Cien is more than likely not going to see production any time soon. GM knows that no one would buy a cadillac for the price of a Ferrari. They need to keep improving the image of Cadillac before a car like this is released.
This leaves us with Camaro, or a car like Camaro, in my opinion. They can make a CONCEPT in 5 MONTHS with parts out of the parts bin! If they hid this car in the C6 program, no one here would ever have known about it, except Red Planet.
GM has been dropping HINTS at us for quite some time about Camaro coming back:
SS has told us to "Have Faith"
Someone else, (Mark Reuss?) told us that they were looking for a platform for Camaro, and then retracted it.
SS has also said the next Camaro would be better than ever, and then retracted it, claiming that he was misinterprited.
We're all just being too negative to see the clues. This is why it's going to be such a huge surprise! I am keeping my hopes up.

Someone remember to bookmark this thread, so that we can refer to it in January. We could see a Camaro-like car, but I can't imagine it would wear the Camaro badge so soon after it was dropped, with CAW issues and everything else....and even then it may be a bit of a stretch.

I bet that is a camaro concept, I really think that a new camaro will be out, like someone said the Camaro is the 5th most recognized names in the industry. you can't let that go away so easily
but the importat thing is
When is that Auto Show!!!!!??

Could it be a Camaro concept?? Sure. GM IS capable of great things, and doing them fast. There are factors, like that they know the Camaro is important and is needed that would make them want to get it back and get it back fast. You might think they don't know, but they do, especially now that the car is not out anymore, the M*****g is selling really good, performance is wanted, GM needs its competitor to the car, and B.L. wants performance and likes the cars. What better way to show the public that the car means something to them and that it is coming back??
Now, with all that making sense and sounding good, do you think they would make a concept Camaro now when the contract isn't that near to being up yet?? I'm sure if they could they would, but I don't know about something like that coming out now.

This brings up another point that I was going to ask about long ago.
Why does everyone think that the CAW had something to do with them not having a new Camaro ready?
The cars in their current form were just not worth keeping at a plant that has the capacity to build 4X the amount of cars that it was. CAW understood that. They never even made that plant an issue in their last contract negotiations. In fact, the only reason that they waited until 2002 was because of their contract with CAW that expired in August. The F-body died with the contract.
Thunderbird appeared really fast after being ditched, didn't it? So did the new Impala, didn't it? Why can't Camaro?

No matter how much I wish it were a Camaro, it doesn't make much sense. I mean, where are they gonna produce it? The canadian plant was shut down, alot of peoplse lost their jobs. if GM was really not gonna get rid of the Camaro like they did, then why would they have skipped a year and just close down a perfectly good plant? Doesn't make any sense. But God, I hope I'm wrong and that it is because I miss them so much already. It is really hard getting over that they are gone
