Question ....

What is the surprise?

Well........its a

JUST WAIT TILL JANUARY!

Some of the responses Iv read here are simply silly and outlandish.
If this where a Chevelle message board, we'd all likely be saying "ITS THE NEW CHEVELLE"
It can be anything from an SUV to a car to a truck to an SAV, MAV, UUV (or whatever).

As for last years Solstice surprise, the rumor DID break JUST BEFORE Detroit. Branden Farthing (gminsidenews.com) was saying that a Pontiac Roadster would be based on the Opel Speedster (which we later found out was not true).

In anycase, don't get too excited. But don't be too dissapointed. Just wait and see!

Dear Bob,

Make it a Camaro that goes to production and I'll give GM my first-born...

Well, um...

How about I just give ya $30,000 or so?

Regards,

PacerX

Just to add to this list of possibilities, GM will also display a retro styled crossover vehicle at the Detroit show (called the 'HHR' I think).

Now, you may return to the speculations, already in progress.

Retro styled crossover vehicle.

No. They're not allowed. You hear me GM? Im putting my foot down, you're not allowed. Go to your room and think about what you've done and what you've wasted money on desiging.

HOLY $HIT!! I KID YOU NOT!!!

Scott Settlemire has been the point man for getting a 5th gen, and if he's been transferred off the Corvette team that's it!

The Camaro truly has died.

I think I'm going to be sick!
It's not as bad as that, don't worry about the perceived implications of the move. When the old car went out of production, they had to do something w/ the people. The fact that he didn't go to another car program should tell you something. And the Corvette and Camaro teams have been one and the same for some time I believe, several years at least.

As far as the upcoming Detroit show, it's just my opinion, but I'm not sure that a Canadian magazine would be the best venue to gush over a Camaro/Camaro-like concept car so soon after the closing of St Therese.

"It will also be the perfect time to announce production of a 2005MY Camaro."

Not gonna happen. There isn't enough time left to source the components and build the tooling for a 2005 MY program.

We are currently quoting components for the 2006 MY.

My humble opinion - espicially on the whole sigma platform and the new plant expansion -

I think the new Camaro will wait a bit longer. I would hope, as I've said before, that the figure out how to do different displacement engines for cars, but they wont do it. With the LS6 power already rediculous, if they made it come from the factory a 350 with even the Ls1 hotcam pkg, it'd be rediculous amounts of power. Well, ah well, what can I say.

I think it would make sense, logically, that GM keep the GTO for a few years. "Driving excitement" or whatever the slogan is now, I think it's more "Fuel for the soul" or something. Anyway, even the GTP is a fun car to drive. Sure, it torque steers worse then a horny bull, but it's a fun car to drive and is extremely responsive for it's size and weight. So, what about the sigma platform? Cutting costs is the only way the Camaro will come back. Granted, if they made it on the sigma platform, it wouldnt be the f-body anymore, but... oh well. We'll deal. If they took a corvette with the Ls6 engine, then took the same car, Ls1, different rear end, different body panels, some difference on the interior, and not as many toys/options, I think would dig themselves into a hole, as well as a solution. It would make the cars cheaper, BUT it would put less a gap between the Camaro/Vette, and you'd have an impossible time making the Camaro a 2+2 out of the sigma chassis. Who knows. What if a Camaro was simply a stripped-down vette? If it's not as comfortable as a vette, dosent look quite as good as a vette, dosent have the toys/features of a vette, but handles like a vette and is almost as fast as a vette....

It wont be for a few years. I just hope GM dosent go all into the performance truck market and forget about cars....

Personally, I wish they'd increase the stroke to like 6L or just over, slap in the hotcam kit to the z06, tune it, get like 470HP, put some different bodywork on it, and make a stingray... another cool thing. But they wont. Lets just wait and hope it's something we'll atleast enjoy, and not a 300HP aztek.

Just one thing. A sigma based Camaro would still be called an F-body. Though it would have sigma components (ie: suspension assemblies, or maybe even front sub structure), the body would still be "f" to designate the line (it most certainly wouldn't have the same structure as a CTS or STS).

At this point I will settle for any American RWD V8 2+2 that comes in at 30 or less. It can be a Mustang(next gen) New Hemi something or a GM car with a Gen4 motor. I dont care if they call it a Camaro GTO or whatever.
