Boss Mustang: It's coming.
#136
Best handling Boss car on the street.
Fastest as well, and fast could be taken across all Mustangs and Ford product until 2003.
I could list off several cars that handled better, including guionM's T-bird SC, the King Cobra, the SN-95 Cobra, and the best of all (IMO) the '86 Mustang SVO.
I have to say that my 71 DOES hold a helluva tight curve though! The competition suspension package was a good step-up from the regular grocery-getter in 1971. Sitting as low as they do, and with the wide/long wheelbase only helped too. 1971-1973 Mustang had the lowest roofline of any Mustang to date at @ 42-43". The car really was a ringer.
Boss 351 on factory F70-15 bias ply tires ripped a best of 13.8 @108 in 1971 - repeatedly, not 1 car, not a factory-prepped tweek job.
Lastly - you are correct. SO MANY old cars have this unrealistic legendary status of being supercars back then, but in reality they were just better than the base cars. Many family minivans and SUVs of today will outperform a performance car of the 1960s and 1970s. Let's hope so with 40 years of technology behind them!
