BREAKING: Ford announces it will build all-new Police Interceptor for 2011

Turbo diesels don't seem to have those problems. Long idling isn't an issue. If there is enough of an issue with it, a built in turbo timer (or, just using drive by wire and a delay on killing the ignition) that keeps the engine idling for a few seconds after hard driving could easily be added.

Taurus ecoboost modified for severe duty.
Turbocharged cars can be designed to be as reliable and durable as naturally aspirated cars. I thought I read somewhere that the Ecoboost was designed to avoid hot shut down turbo overhead problems.

Are we sure its the Taurus??
I mean look at the scoff that happened when GM went to the FWD Impy. It took a while to get law enforcement to embrace it. Till the charger came along. That and the CV was the only game in town.
And combined with the new powerplants that Ford has for the Mustang..is it safe to say we might see a 4 door stang type of cop car?

I never gave Carbon any hope. The whole idea sounds really way off. Someone who is used to getting the same consistent predictable "good" isn't going to experiment on something new and atypical.
I could not see police departments signing up to something like that. The manufacturer of Carbon has no record of customer service either.

I mentioned this to my co-worker who purchases our police vehicles. He was excited Ford was back in the game but skeptical if it is in fact based on the Mustang architecture. Our guys love the Crown Vic, its RWD, powerful and big enough to handle all our equipment and gear. Its seems like we're always adding more equipment to these sedans, so a smaller vehicle probably won't work for us. (One of the reasons we nixed the Charger.)
I hope at least one manufacturer is listening to the boys in blue.

The Taurus is FWD. Unless they're planning to offer AWD on the Police version, which would make the vehicle awful pricey. Trunk space is the primary issue. I'm not sure the Taurus is any bigger than the Charger in that aspect.

As large as the Crown Vic's?
While true, it hasn't been confirmed that the Police version is getting AWD.
Let us not forget that a Police version of the Taurus was already a known for next year. What this thread is referring to is "something else".

I predict an AWD Taurus with upgraded parts. Note that the non-turbo 3.5 or 3.7 engines have more power than the Crown Vic 4.6, though the Taurus may be a bit heavier. Probably turbo will be an option.
All speculation on my part, but I can't see Ford designing a new RWD sedan just for police duty. It'll be a lot easier to just upgrade the Taurus.

According to this site it is 20.1 cubic feet.
And to see the shape:
2010 Taurus
*Fixed after 30thZ286speed's correction*
2009 Crown Victoria
If the civilian version has AWD optional and the SHO does as well, why wouldn't the PI as well?
