BREAKING: Ford announces it will build all-new Police Interceptor for 2011

It is pretty widely known that the next Explorer is going unibody and will be built in Chicago. The big assumption is that Ford is going to use this chassis to build the car. The current Explorer plant will be building the next Escape/Kuga.

If so that will raise the price as well. The Limited Taurus AWD costs $33,620 and the SHO starts at $37,770. A difference of $4,150.
It will be interesting to see how they package things.

Doing the Build Your Own on Ford's website shows the base model doesn't have AWD option. The midlevel SEL FWD starts at $27,370. The AWD SEL starts at $29,220. So $1,850. But would that just be available on the Ecoboost models?

None of this sort of thing blows any wind up my skirt either Bob.
Whatever has room for the most donuts will likely rule the segment...
I wonder if any of the jurisdictions can even afford new vehicles. Tax revenus being what they are now.
The effectiveness of the radio gear has always been what matters most for pursuit cars...
I have always figured the Motorola radios capable enough to do the job.

In many ways this Taurus is a lot like the FWD Impala for police in that it's replacing a better fitting product in the Crown Victoria and RWD Impala.
The key to all of this is where they price the the AWD with Ecoboost. That could be a real niche for Ford and have a lot of snow belt customers. But again price and durability are big factors. The Charger and now the Caprice in the mix booth fitting the traditional tried and true large RWD sedan that police have embraced for so long. It's a tough sell.

This is 100% pure failure. When are car companies going to stop "TELLING" consumers what they need to drive and start providing cars that the consumers actually want. Police want LARGE RWD with lots or room.....GM spit on them in 97 cancelling the b-body.
Now ford does the same with killing the one car left that fits the mold.
And why cant ford keep making the Crownvic? It obviously isnt cost, the platform has been paid for several times over. I doubt crash standards, these cars are pretty tankish...
Probably the 1st or 2nd terrible decision Alan Mulally has made since coming to Ford.
Hopefully this lets gives GM the window to slip the Caprice in to take over the market.!
