CTS-V Wagon Black Diamond Edition showed up in my driveway...
On Friday a CTS-V Wagon, Black Diamond Edition, showed up in my driveway to test out for a few days. I' wanted to get behind the wheel of a second gen CTS-V since they were released. I previously owned a 2004 CTS-V.
It was a bright and sunny 88 degree day in Metro Detroit when the CTS-V Wagon arrived. The first thing I noticed is how glittery the paint was on the Black Diamond edition. It really stands out in the sunshine. The blacked out wheels and yellow Brembo's complimented the car perfectly.

Interior - I got in the car and started to inspect the interior. The Recaro seats are firm and took a little bit to adjust into a position that felt comfortable to me. I'm 6'4" tall, but fit nicely behind the wheel. The car had a very familiar feeling to me as I used to have a 2009 CTS that I leased up until last summer. The suede covered steering wheel and the 6 speed manual shifter were comfortable. The backseat offers plenty of room and I quickly moved the car seat from my 2010 Camaro SS to the CTS-V Wagon for my 3 year old son. Opening the back of the wagon reveals all the extra space you get with the Wagon model.
Driving - No key is required to start the car, just have the key fob inside the car (I left it in my pocket). The car has a nice subtle exhaust note to it when started. Shifting is smooth and short. Once problem I immediately noticed was how close together the gas/brake/clutch pedals were. Probably not a problem for the normal person, but with size 14 feet, it took some getting used. After a full day of driving, I was already used to that.
Acceleration - This car is crazy fast! This has to be the fastest car i've ever driven with 556hp at the ready. It is just sick how incredibly smooth, and refined this car is when rowing through the gears. Getting in the throttle becomes way too addicting. Magnaride suspension allows you to switch between touring and sport mode.
Gas mileage - Let's face it, you won't buy this car for the gas mileage. I've averaged about 11mpg (sticker says 14 City 19 Hwy), and already been through one tank during the weekend.
The Camaro ZL1 is getting this driveline from the car, and will have "at least 550hp". I have to say, this has probably swayed me to buy a ZL1 when they come out...and I don't wanna give this car back to GM either.

An interesting car... noy much like it out there, really.
My only real strike i have against it is that one thing I just have never liked is all-black wheels. I think they look cheap and corny.

My god I love that car. It is the only wagon that is so damn sexy and has the performance to back it up. Give it to me!

I really like the wagon version of the V. I really enjoy my 07 V and look forward to trading up to a V2 in a few years, but I'll either go sedan or coupe...with a manual trans of course.
