Flying car on the market by 2010

It's not so much a flying car, as a flying aircraft. What is so "car" about this thing?
The costs of such an aircraft would deter most consumers from purchasing it.
Only some would pass licensing requirements to operate such aircraft. Meaning the majority of the populace would still be using road-based cars.
This vehicle is an unnecessary waste of fuel. A car and "flying car" both need fuel to move horizontally, however this "flying car" also needs fuel to keep itself suspended in the air.

I read something once where a person involved in aviation stated something like : "we don't need cars that can fly, but planes that are easier for the average person to fly".
I thought that made sense and I think the solution would be private planes that have more car-like controls instead of all-new flying cars.
