GM Sells Heritage Fleet

I don't see them being able to buy back any of those cars anytime soon.

GM sells heritage fleet
18 December 2008

General Motors plans to auction more than fifty cars from its heritage museum as part of its ongoing effort to raise funds.

The list of cars for sale is not yet complete and the rarest models in the collection will not be sold.

But more modern additions - from the 1980s and 1990s – make up the bulk of cars going to auction.

This includes the entire Hummer and GMC collection and a series of rare and limited edition Corvettes. A 1904 Oldsmobile Touring, two Peugeot 205 Turbos, Bill Clinton’s presidential Limo and a car used by the Pope in 1998 are also on the list.

The GM heritage museum plans to hive off vehicles it can buy back relatively easily if times get better.

All the cars are being auctioned by Barret-Jackson from 13-19 January in Scotsdale, Arizona.

I'm surprised at some of them on the list. Usually they can't sell one-off prototypes due to liability issues.

Is there a list out there or are you just talking about the small list included in the story.

This is like selling your left one to keep the right one.

I imagine that there is a corporate guy that is not a "car" guy who made this proposal.

When you burn through billions in a month, just how far is this going to get them anyway?
I'd think the jets and fleet programs would get more cash quickly.

There can't be much money to be made in this. It seems to be a move made to gain public sympathy more than to raise desperately needed funds. Nice try GM, now get on to the real changes that need to be done.

Thats a big list. I've never heard the Corvette ZR-2 referred to as Big Doggie. Not that I hear people refer to it much. Lots of cool camaros . Camaro LT5 would be pretty cool. Too bad they didn't hold onto the 1992 collectors edition. I would have tried hard to make a run at that one. I'm curious to see how much these go for. The Corvette Snake skinner would be a cool one to have too.
I don't know anything about these:
1989 Corvette DR-1
1997 Corvette Tiger Shark (was this the white one. The only thing that comes to mind is the yellow one with the 427 but I thought that was built later like 2001 or 2002)
1999 Corvette Shark( same question as Tiger shark)
1969 Reggie Jackson Camaro (red)- I thought this car was actually owned by Reggie Jackson, was that not the case or did they build two of them.
2005 Corvette Atlantic
2005 Corvette Pacific
Camaro Trans Am 2 seater- is this just a random trans am car

Only one I can comment on is the 1989 Corvette DR-1. This was a convertible ZR-1 done in house I believe by GM for on of the Execs. His last name started with "D" hence the "DR-1" designation.

I can understand why GM wants to get rid of this inventory--or a good portion of it. It's not free to store them--and the collection would have just kept on growing and growing....

Most people who buy them will be good guardians I think.

Holy ****, the Buick Blackhawk is for sale?

At least they're keeping the Mako Shark and GNX #s 1 and 2.

Oh my, that LT5 Camaro has one of the most hideous paint jobs/color schemes I have ever seen.

one of the more interesting cars that GM is hanging on to --the 89 TTA 6 speed manual--that would be very cool to own
