Post I-6 of V-6 Turbo

Now this is a long shot, considering we're waiting to get a highly demanded F-body out of GM, but what about a new car with a I-6 or V-6 turbo. I am totally against calling it a Camaro or firebird, because they need to have 8's (my opinion). But what about a car kind of like the old Turbo Regals? What do you guys think?

Not a bad idea....Buick could bring back the Grand National based off a .....Sigma chasis- and have a TT I6...

But kind of unlikely- GM will have a Corvette, hopfully an F-5 and a GTO-

they don't want to saturate a realitively small market.

Depstite the resurgance or RWD- most cars (esp GM) will stay FWD.

Unlikely, especially from a company that is bringing the SSR into a market that really doesn't want it. Just was a thought.

Thumbs up

I like the turbo I6 Grand National idea. Why not make it a 4 door?

Since Camaros & Firebirds have had 6 cylinder engines since day one, I am assuming you mean as top powerplant.

All involved in planning the next Camaro are definately aware that top engine (at least in Camaro) has to be a V8. Firebird had a turbo V6 (basically the turbo Regal engine you mentioned)as a special edition about 13 years ago that was quicker than the Vette till at least 60 (& possibly the quarter mile as well), and in the intrest of having a different idenity from Camaro, I have no qualms about it going that route again.

I think a lot of Firebird fans would be disappointed in that idea. Yes, there was an outstanding turbo V6 in 1989.... but that is only one year out of 34 years of Firebird.... Firebird is as much about V8 power as Camaro is.

Ya read my mind Darth. I can't in good conscience sit here and say a new Firebird should be a turbo 6 to "differentiate it" from the next Camaro when I know there are just as many big Firebird guys out there who would freak out at such a notion. Their point would be, why can't Camaro be the 6 cylinder car? And they'd have a perfectly legit argument.

How about a I-6 twin turbo car based off of the Corvette/XLR? Maybe introduce it for Pontiac as their top of the line sports car over the GTO. Or maybe as a 4 door sporty car for Buick. Just some thoughts.

Even though GM will try almost anything, it won't do another turbo anytime soon. Not for an fbody. Now IF they did do a V6 or I6 turbo firebird and made the camaro V8, I'd be so 1st inline at the Pontiac dealership it wouldn't be funny. It'd be like star wars openning night. allot of V8 guys would be upset(new camaro owners). Because that turbo car would smoke everything, including any new vette after the boost is turned up. This is one of many reasons why it won't happen.

Think of the vettes that where out the year GNs and T-Types where new. GN dudes killed everything after they turned up the boost.
