If GM continued 4th gen production until the 5th gen is released (maybe another 5 years?), would anyone still buy one?

I'd buy one.. I am trying like crazy to get one.. working my butt off to make some money to finally get one... but if they had a longer run I think people in general would buy them... all they need is that LS6 in there and I will be VERY HAPPY.. hehe

I love the 4th gen, but it is hard to buy a car that is nearly identical to my 99 Z28.

In fact, I'd kind of liek to purchase a new car right now, and I could get $5600 off my best deal oon a new Camaro ($3000 rebate, my $1000 Legends Tour Certificate, and my $1600 in GM Card Rebate)

But I still am having a hard time pulling the trigger on it.

The car is due for a change... but that means that a new car should have been ready by now.

I'd buy one, I love the 4th gen, but like most people on this board I'm a Camaro enthusiast. I think over all sales would continue to slump if GM handled this car like they have for the past few years. Without current style freshening and some kind of marketing at all nothing would really change. I think the overall public would continue to treat it the same. Plus once the DEW98 stangs hit the street we would really get embarrassed. I think the best idea is to instead of continuing to lose money on the 4th gen we need Gm to bring out the 5th gen. Though it would be nice to see an LS6 in a 4th gen Fbod.

I would most definitely buy one! I want a new SS real bad, and I'll get my degree this month. If 4th Gen production continued on for another year or two, I'd buy one. At this point though I will probably be looking at used '01s or '02s in a couple years.

I think sales still wouldn't be good. The look and int. design of the 4ths just aren't liked much, among other things. Then you have the whole Z28/SS thing, which I and others still think is stupidity. It was never a well recieved car overall, this is why there is a hiatus, even though a better 5th Gen should have been ready to go instead of just leaving 35 years of greatness just to start it again a few years later.

It would have taken a MAJOR refreshening for me to have considered another. As mentioned, the LS6 would have made it a more convincing offer.

Yup, it would have made more sense to just start a new Gen.

Well of course sales wouldn't get any better. The question simply was, would you buy one? Apparently there are some who would, me included.

Why do I get the feeling that this thread was started simply to start bashing the 4th Gen again?

I would buy another one in a heartbeat! Oh, and the "look" and interior suit me just fine. Despite what some would like to believe, the 4th gen does in fact have a loyal fanbase, just like the 3rd gen. Many people do like it, but sadly, many more know hardly anything about it. The 4th gen's time may have passed in today's market, but it will remain the best OVERALL production f-body ever made.

Most definitely! Now that I've rebuilt my credit to decent ratings by the payments on my '97 Z-28, as well as paying off a couple of loans, a new, stripped down Formula would have been set in my sites. Now I'll just have to continue rebuilding my credit even more so that the purchase of a new GTO will be possible.

Problem with the dealers in my area is that the selection sucked. Every car was fully loaded from Z-28's to T/A's. Rarely did I ever see a Formula, much less a stripper version of any F-bod. And to put salt in the wounds, one of 2 local Pontiac dealers here always tagged on a $5K "market parity adjustment" fee on every WS6 car they sold, in addition to adding a $200.00 pinstripe job and $1000.00 "environmental protection coating"(basically a clearcoat on top of the factory clearcoat) on all their cars.

Thumbs up

I'd definatly buy one in a heartbeat! That is one option on my list of a next car, that or another thirdgen or a 69 Z But I love everything about the 4th gen, looks, handling, and cant forget the nuts that those LS1 and LT1's have! But heres a good question, if they kept the 4th gen around for a couple more years until the 5th gen came out with out any hiatus do you think they would have made another minor change to the looks like they did in 98 with the headlights?? jus somthing to think about.
