Interesting Tidbit at SEMA
For all those who are wondering why the Silverado SS will not get a powerful engine. I read this one part in the SEMA review on GM about the Cadillac EXT-M:
http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=5489
"The powerplant is a supercharged and intercooled Vortec 6.0-liter V-8 pumping out over 500 horsepower and 500-plus lbs.-ft. of torque. Full-time all-wheel drive is standard. The same idea works on the CTSm, too."
Looks like GM has developed a Supercharged 6.0 and is looking at it for development in an Escalade EXT. If so, could this be the second or third model year horsepower upgrade for the Silverado SS?

That same webpage has photos of the REGULAR CAB SWB Silverado SS concept and the Trailblazer SS among others. basically many of the cars we were speculating about in that other thread. I have to say the SWB Silverado SS looks like just what the Dr. ordered after the miserable extra-cab version..

Ill take a Turbo I6 over the NA V8. A few tweeks here and there and we have 500 RWHP on the I6. I bet it would cost tripple to get the na v8 make the same power. Again GM give your SS models some real *****.

I just don't see how it would be cheaper to get 600 hp from a I6 than a V8, get over the turbo I6. The 80's came and went, it's over. Jesus. Anyway how definite are any of these plans? Are those cavaliers going to be produced, obviously both of them won't be but I think they should offer a Cavalier SS to compete with all the higher powered compacts coming out. I would never own one but I'd like to see Chevy strike back at the SVT and SRTs out there.

I rather like this combination:
"Clad in bright orange instead, the Silverado SST is a striking, smoothed-out four-door truck with a shortened wheelbase and a carbon-fiber hood. The Corvette influences are duly noted: there’s a 480-hp 6.6-liter V-8 with a six-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential on loan from the sports car. The suspension is all independent, with front and rear air springs; anti-lock brakes are fitted to the four-wheel discs."
This is better than your Escalade EXTm, this thing almost got the same horsepower without the supercharger
Or how about this: An 8.1-liter V-8 with 460 hp slots in the engine bay. This engine is in Suburban.

On another note, does the below text indicate that GM found tranny for GrandPrix?
"The Grand Prix GXP also gets its suspension lowered, but the powerplant underhood is considerably larger — a 285-hp version of the 3800 V-6. "
Did they beef up the current tranny, or put in a whole new one?

This quote regarding Pontiac Sunfire is very ironic (it's actually funny in a sad way):
"Elsewhere, Pontiac’s Sunfire American Tuner show car addresses the needs of modifieds who might not be able to outlay the initial $12,000 or $15,000 for a basic compact. Loosely styled after the GTOs, the pieces are penned to fit existing Sunfires from 1995-2002."
So they penn pieces after GTO for a lowly Sunfire, but fail to do the same on the upcoming GTO? Gee......
HOpefully the sketch that they showed us (a very badly done sketch at that) does not represent the final car.
