If they bring Camaro or Firebird back, it almost assuredly won't have an exclusive platform... it will probablyt be Simga, so really, unless they are feeling nostalgic, I don't see why they'd refer to it as the "F"-car or anything "F".

Thanks! You beat me to my explaination.
Also, it looks liek the "Letter" designations are a thing of the past, or are at least being phased out...
Enter the neew breed: Sigma, Delta, Epsilon, et al.

Iv said this before too.
I hate it when people refer to the 5th gen as an "F5".
If anything, call it a CA5.

Well, "F5" is short, simple, and it has sort become the pet-name around here for a potnetial Gen5 Camaro/Firebird.
Technically, the "C5" should have been called a "Y5"... LOL.

Yup, the letter designations are dead.
While "Sigma" may be a platform, the cars are actually referred to as yet another code, such as GMX-320, GMX-380. Trucks get a "T" instead of the "X", such as GMT-800, GMT-355, etc....

While we are one the subject, it is Pontiac in the biggest hole with the F-body leaving. You can't have your excitement division with a the GTP as flagship, it is a great car and all, but not a sports car. They did studies on a Corvette based Firebird (C6firebird), and I found those leaked documents to be very true. The problem is that GM didn't want a cheap version of the Vette...kinda dilutes it. Thats why we saw the GTO show car that fell on death ears, and early guage for the Goats return. The new GTO is all Lutz, because he pretty much realized the mess looming with Pontiac not having a halo car. The only reason the GTO is coming here is because GM avoided the issue with Pontiac so long.

The study in '95-96 was the GMX-280....based loosely on the Holden...too big, too tall, not enough "tumble-home" and too expensive. What makes you believe that every thing gets leaked? Additionally, while we refer to cars as GMX *** the VIN still reflects the Alpha character in the VIN....so don't assume that F will not be used. The problem is that there is a TON of conjecture out there...more fiction than fact...but do not assume that you will NEVER see a Camaro again....because NEVER is a LONG time.....There is a lot of stuff being worked on....additionally, do not assume that platforms cannot be modified.......I've said it before and I will say it again...have faith...it is NOT going to happen overnite......decisions were made long ago....many new programs are waiting in the wings...it is simply a matter of money...we may be the largest car company in the world...but we, too, only have so much money and so many engineers etc.......now with all that said, you are not going to hear a lot about some new products....because those that talk will get canned......simple as that.

Great point about the VIN designation.... I never thought about that!! So, in a sense, the "F" could live on!
I love it!!

BTW, what's "tumble home"?

Tumble Home is a reference to the angle that the cabin of the car combines into the doors and body panels...
For example, a Monte Carlo is pretty straight up and down, another example would be the new CTS... these cars have very little "tumble home"
Cars like Camaro, Corvette, etc have much greater tumble home... the sides of the car 'stretch out' over the structure more...
I don't know if I did a very good job of explaining it... but Bob Lutz ranks "tumble home" as a very important element to a smooth, nice looking design...

When getting into a low slung coupe, tumble home means banging your head on the door glass instead of the roof.
