From a technical standpoint having alot of individual pick and choose options will drive up the cost of a car . It is much cheaper for a car company to have say 3-4 variations of a chassis wiring harness , than say 10-15 to suit all these individual options . Take something simple like Fog lights on a camaro that actually were never standard even on the SS . You couldnt just add fog lights on say a base Z28 with crank windows and manual locks because the wiring for the fog lights was incorporated in a harness that included several other things . Thats just a very basic example .

Yeah that is understandable. Couldn't all cars recieve a basic wiring harness that has connectors for every option? And if a certain car was to recieve certain options, a "branch" harness would simply be attached to the appropriate connector. Of course, that would mean more connectors and wires on every car, even though some would be connected to nothing. I mainly think it would be cool if a buyer could choose his/her rear end gear ratio, if so desired. But like I said before, that would most likely effect the average fuel economy of that specific car. They would have to design the car so it would get good enough mpg with the steepest gears available, which would probably rule out say, 4.10's and up. It would be cool, though!

How about...make a Camaro that doesn't depreciate 24 to 30% the first year.
