North American journalists give GTO program thumbs up

AUSSIE PONTIAC THUMBS-UP

NORTH American journalists brought to
Australia by Pontiac last week to review Holden
operations have given the Monaro the
thumbs-up as a potential hot seller.
The nine representatives of influential motoring
media in the US and Canada arrived Down
Under in a sceptical frame of mind, given a
propensity of GM North America to over-hype
and under-deliver.
But the consensus this time was that the Monaro
was ideal as a Pontiac GTO, was exactly the
right package size and was very well built.
Michelle Krebs, a senior editor of Auto World
and a columnist for The New York Times whose
work is syndicated to 35 US newspapers, said
she was impressed by the ingenuity at the
Holden Elizabeth plant where so many different
variants are made on the one line.
Ms Krebs, a juror for the North American Car
and Truck of the Year award, said: "Where have
you been hiding Holden all these years?"

Imagine if GM could do that...

I remember hearing that Canada was already ruled out as a recipient of the GTO. But with their new revised "up to 30,000" figure, you never know. I'm still betting against it for now.

Ah, someone else got word of the new 30,000 figure!

I'm not surprised at the thumbs up rating given by the press on the GTO so far (remember, I drove a Monaro). It's a well made car. Can't wait for this news blackout to be lifted!
