Agreed. By the time I read stuff in C&D, R&T, and MT, I've read about it here 2 months beforehand.

 

I had a Ford dealer tell me that the Lightning is fast because of how lightweight it is, and that it'd outrun a Z06.

Dealers say all sorts of crazy crap, and they are generally less informed than people like us on cars.

But hey, here's hoping the Camaro is back in 2005, maybe it'll be better than the 2004 Charger...hopefully.

my theory is (probably wrong) they are just going to sell the vettes but offer a whole bunch of models cheap-c5, and the vette will lose its name, then they will bring the camaro back so that it beats the vette

 

The Corvette is GM's favorite kid. They'd sooner scrub the entire Cadillac brand off the face of the earth than get rid of the Corvette. Any car GM to outperform the Corvette in some way has been cancelled.

 

You guys need to go check out the 5th Gen section. I read it every day. There is a lot going on in there. All of you that have an interest in our cars should start reading in that forum. Our car will be back, probably about 06' though at the soonest.

 

Not to burst your bubble, but everyone seems to know when the Camaro is coming back. Hell, I bet if you asked my cat, he would say that he has an aunt who works at a Saturn plant and she said in 2005 they are gonna make a FWD Camaro, or something to that effect. I get emails like this post with "insider" information alot, and have learned to take them with a grain of salt, especially dealers. I have found that GM execs really hate dealers when it comes to telling them about future product because things always get bungled. For inside news the dealer is the LAST place you wanna look. I mean how can he know that there we be a 2005 Camaro when I know for a fact that the car HAS NOT been approved?

No to sound arrogent, but if you wanna keep up on the future of the Camaro I suggest that you read this forum extensivly and my site www.gminsidenews.com for the latest RELIABLE info.
Remember I was the one who published that there would be a 2004 GTO over a year ago when no one else gave it a second thought

Let me give you guys the real scoop as told to me by a Pontiac salesman.

You see...both the Camaro and Corvette as we know them are going away...and the next Corvette will actually return and be called the Firebird and sold exclusively by Pontiac!!!!

Dealers are pretty dumb- salemaen (generally) just sell the car- WE know more about it

And for crying out loud- all you delusional people get rid of your 427, 454 Big block ideas for an F-5- and get back on your prozac!

1. Big blocks take up lots of room
2. weigh more
3. pollute more

Quick, which handled better, a 69 Z28 302 or a 427 ZL1? Z28 hands down- even with the alluminum 427- it still wasn't as light.

Big blocks existed because the only way to get cheap, reliable power in the 60's was to use a big displacement engine.

Now we have progressed 30 years in tech and
a 350 can provide every bit of the performance of the legendary big blocks AND

gets great gas milage, barely pollute, maitence is much less- and the all alluminum small block weighs much, much less.

Remeber too- the hp rating was gross in the 60s'. I belive if you measured the LS6
small block in gross hp it would be 500hp or so.

I think a 5.3 would be a great choice for n F5- if they used LS6 heads and cam- and if the hp/litre were the same (as 405hp 5.7)

it owuld be 376hp! Combine that with a (hopefully) lighter weight of an F-5 and it would easily beat a 02 SS Camaro.

Big blocks are like Dinosaurs- both are extinct- and hey, both were great in their day.

What the dealer told you is 100% crap. GM has not approved anything.

Yup. The dealer does not know anything.

 

At least 500. Maybe even 525. Most engines lost 25-30% when ratings changed from gross to net.
