Now that you've seen the Camaro in the flesh...

Fact is....
When I saw those mule pics, I didn't like what I saw, but wanted to see a production version before a final verdict. Now that I've seen/sat in/touched/checked out about 15 or so production Camaros, I know my initial impressions were correct. But like I said, so what? What's this obsession with what is or is not my decision making process. It is what it is and the Camaro is what it is.
I'm not forcing anyone to feel the same way. I can have my opinion, you can have yours ---- right?
Or is that not possible?

Yet now we get to our production car after 7 long years and now you three are just negative about it. Maybe not so much formula79 but def you and guionM. So all the excitement and positiveness has been sucked out.
I even remember something I think it was you alluded to in the secret name they were using for the 5th gen Camaro project. I never found out the answer to that. Alot of people guessed "Panther" but were told they were wrong. Do you remember that?

I think the problem is that for so many years lots of people on here(myself included) read all the hints and secrets mostly from you, guionM and formula79 (and some others but you three always stuck out in my mind) about the 5th gen and it kept me coming back to see what new info was being leaked.

Well, it's not my intent to rain on anyone's parade. But since this is pretty much my internet home, I don't want to be dishonest about my impressions either. Plus I think there's value in having an open debate and exchange of ideas on the matter as well.

I'm going to back Charlie up 110% here (as if my opinion matters anyway )...the car is big. Its ok for him, and myself, to be less than 100% enthralled with it. Someone else mentioned that the only way the Mustang makes those handling numbers is with the Track Pak. I don't care if it needs that. I don't care if 5% of GTs made have it. My point is that the car CAN be equipped that way, and I'd sure buy one that way if I was going to buy one at all! THAT is what matters to me.
FWIW, I FINALLY had a chance to sit in one at the local auto auction today, where 4 were being auctioned, still on MSO. I watched a $27,500 MSRP 1LT go for $30,300, and a $40,600 2SS (with that loathesome body kit...otherwise a handsome car with red/white stripes, RS package) go for $44,900. Anyway, I sat in the 1LT...my first time behind the wheel. And what did I notice?
1) Seats were VERY comfortable.
2) Ergonomics were great
3) The steering wheel that seems odd in photos is great in person.
4) The IP is every bit as awful looking as I thought it was It reminds me of Wall-E, for some reason...
And, that killed it for me...I got back in my V6 '07 Mustang demo I have right now, and found that I actually prefer the OLD Mustang dash better than the new Camaro...imagine how I'd like the NEW Mustang dash...
Enough ranting for me...Charlie, check your PMs. I need third gen purchasing advice, my friend

I think you hit the nail on the head. I was the same way. Always logged on here to read the inside information. As you said it was usually one of those 3 providing it. Kinda bothers me that he doesn't like it.
B4 my Cobra all I have owned were Camaro's, two 3rd gens and one 4th. I had always hated Mustangs and all I ever heard were bad things about the 03/04 Cobra, (especially the weight). It was a fairly heavy car when compared to z28s at the time. My brother talked me into driving it & I couldn't sleep that night. Bought it a week later...
Still dont really consider myself a Mustang person, but it has opened my eyes to them.

You may have had an effect on some who only occasionally visit this place. But for those of us grounded in reality, and those of us who never lost the faith about what kind of Camaro that GM would deliver, the continued moaning and carping of a select few will have little impact. The new Camaro is a great design, and a superior value in affordable sport coupes. Get over it please, and move on to something you can love.

Read your own posts. It is like a broken record...
Camaro weighs too much, I am not buying one..
There is no Z28, I am not buying one..
Interior sucks I am not buy one...
Oh, by the way the Camaro is huge....
moving on...did you hear about Alpha..it will be way better than the current dumptruck of a Camaro we have....
In fact, on your previous post you accused me of being a 'hypocrite' and 'shortsighted' for moving on and pinning my hopes on the 6th gen. So which is it?
How liberating it must be to be so unencumbered by reality. The Camaro is BIG. Accept it. I do. I don't know what all this denial is about, but it's pretty freakin' ridiculous here.
One thing you need to do as a person is step out your Charlie bubble and realize that people may want things that are different than you...or may have different priorities. Matter of fact..I would say if you follow the posts here...most of your opinons are at the extreme.
As far as diluting what my opinion means to GM -- well, that's laughable. I've got some news for you bud, my opinion doesn't mean jack to GM. Your opinion doesn't mean jack to GM.
You think I'm "presumptuous" and "selfish" and "turning up my nose" (who was it that was talking about hurling insults? You?) at the new Camaro - spare me.
I've lobbied just about as hard as anyone else has for the Camaro. I think even the casual observer will agree, that I was hoping for something different.
An anology I might use here is of someone going to a legendary steak house for a NY strip steak. The waiter, in exquisite detail, asks the customer, exactly how they'd like their steak prepared. The patron, a great fan of NY strip, eagerly responds and doesn't mind waiting a looooooooong time for it to be cooked and plated. Finally, after many hours, the waiter returns with a fatty hunk of mutton, and then Branden tells the patron, "that's what you've wanted a-hole, now eat it you ungrateful, presumtuous, selfish, shortsighted, hypocritical, nose upturning son of a b!tch".

Now again...I ask you...for all you stomping..have you driven a new Camaro SS yet? What about a G8 GXP? I have a hard to believing that someone who loves a V6 CTS so much would not have a stupid child like grin on their face driving a new Camaro SS.

When I first came here I always did a search for Scott, Charlie and Guy's posts to hear the inside and the latest and get their impressions. Scotts praticularly was the reason I signed up. Charlie, I really am sorry you dont like the car. Thats personal taste though. Im in the camp that thinks, "theres two types of Camaros, the '69, and everything else. That includes the 3rd gen. Again personal taste. I try to consider what I feel are the best from other peoples, but in the end its my opinion that matters most to me.
My impression was I liked the exterior more than I thought I would. Its still wide but not as bad as the concept which turned me off to it. I dont like how high the belt line is. If it were up to me, Id leave the roof line where it is and drop the belt line about an inch or two if possible. The interior was the real surprise for me. I saw the concept in person and didnt like the interior at all. I expected to hate the interior production. I didnt, though I still dont like the orange strange reflective plastic interior option even after seeing it in person. Personally I thought the interior was ok where I thought Id hate it. I liked the console gauges. Dont like the choptop like feel. The clostrophobic feel reported in the mags and pointed out to me by a Mercedes dealer while I was sitting in the car for me is hardly there. I didnt get that feeling. The doors come in at my shoulders but I didnt care. Wheels are a bit tall for me by an inch or two. With those wheel wells youre stuck. IBM is beautiful judging by the wall papers JG posted in his thread.
My biggest fear is the rear. What happened to that one guy who posted a thread that said his rear broke the second day? I havent seen other people saying the same thing but it was a fear I was worried about hearing about from others on here from CTS and GTO. My father made an off hand remark "go have fun, buy that Camaro" I am so glad this thing is in so much demand right now because Im fighting the urge to do just that with what could be a house downpayment and I dont know what the right thing to do is. Im running out of jimeny crickets on my shoulders... lol But I wont pay MSRP and I want to use my GM points which I have about 2300 GM bucks Ive earned since 2003 expecting this car.
Oh also I agree on trackpack idea, that suspension would be ther first thing I changed on an SS. Possibly a cam, but Id be open to Front End lighter weight components as long as they were durable.

...The problem is..the new Camaro is not mutton. It would be more like a porterhouse to your New York Strip. Just because it is big...does not mean it is not a world class car. Many of the road tests of the G8 GXP (basically same as Camaro SS) have people comparing it honestly to BMW's. When's the last time anything remotely related to Camaro could be mentioned anywhere near BMW in the same sentence? The car has more power than any Camaro ever. The SS has better brakes than any Camaro ever. From what I have seen in my experiance with the G8..it will have a better road feel and be more pleasent to drive than any Camaro ever. Despite the Camaro's size...it is a fantastically put togethor car.

You've chosen a strange place as your "internet home". It's as if you are bitterly disappointed with the new Camaro, but have yet to "move on" to something you can love instead. If you like the lighter Mustang... by all means go get one. It's a fine car and a great value. Do you seriously think you're going to have some kind of effect on the design of the SIXTH generation Camaro, which (based on the 1993-2002 4gen lifecycle) might be up to ten years away? Or are you just trying to spitefullly throw a damp towel on the excitement and joy among those of us who celebrate the 2010 Camaro? Really, what is the point?

Are you serious?
People had issues with 4th gens too, and voiced their opinions. They weren't thrown off the board. Just because some of us don't just blindly love EVERYTHING about the new car means we shouldn't bother posting? Get real. The same things dissenters gripe about (weight and all-out handling) are the same things the auto rags have complained about too...the same things other competitors don't have to deal with. The dash seems to go over better in the press, but not nearly as well on here. There are more people that dislike the dash than you guys seem to realize if you think its a "vocal few."
If the car had ONE, maybe even TWO of these flaws (weight, dash, handling), hell, I'd go order one. No car is perfect, and I think most of us are smart enough to realize that. But when you put all 3 together?
3 serious issues for some people if you're gonna go spend $30k+. Think about it. If they don't bother YOU, then enjoy!!! But don't be surprised when others CAN'T overlook them. I want to love a Camaro so, so bad...because its gorgeous outside. But when I sat in that 1LT yesterday?
It killed it for me...
