Old '89 Fiero Prototype shown with GTA Trans Am badges
On display at a national streetrod show in Kentucky. Photos of this older prototype are big news for Fiero guys to beginwith; they were thought to have been destroyed a long time ago. It was a very sharp car looking way ahead of its time and clearly influenced the styling of the competing '91 MR2.
Anyways, it was just debated in a post recently that the Fiero could uphold the Trans Am name if it were resurrected, so I thought I'd post this bit of news. If I'm not mistaken, the '89 Fiero prototype was originally called the Fiero GTP, so I don't know what GM's up to with rebadging it and then displaying it over a decade later.
I'm all for the Fiero coming back (and Trans Am), but hopefully GM keeps them as separate car lines and not as some hybrid (I'm not here to fuel that debate again).
Anyways, wade through the 11 pages of posts for the nice pics and feel free to wonder what GM has up their sleeve...

It seems as if GM is testing the waters to guage public reaction to a mid-engine trans-am model. To my knowledge this car has never been at an auto show before, only a few photos were released previously. Why show it now? It didnt have ta emblems in the earlier photos.
Take a look at the photos. This prototype is similar in length to a 4 gen f-body, yet built on 84-88 fiero chassis. An extension of some sort (called magic bar)was added to the rear of the frame.
There have been rumors on the internet for 2 years of the return of a fiero-like car.

Can't say I'm impressed. It's the old 'improve it by making it bigger' school of thought, which inevitably makes it heavier.
Though some of the ideas are nice (I like the rear) if this is what was planned for the next Fiero, I'm glad it didn't happen.
Trivia time: The MR2 WAS infact Toyota's response (ripoff) to Fiero, right down to the name: Fiero's 2M4 (2 seat, mid-engine, 4 cylinder), Toyota's MR2 (mid-engine, rear-drive, 2 seater).

Fiero...
There are some that still claim to this day that Elvis lives...
Give it a rest? If the Fiero were to ever come back, it would probably be a reskinning of the Opel Speedster. There is no Fiero conspiracy. I do not believe that this is a concept for a midengine 5th gen Trans Am based on name alone.
