POLL: which current car does the new "GTO" look like TOO much?
#3
In the glory days of musclecars we used to call cars like the New GTO "sleepers". The fact that it looks like something my mother would drive, further adds to the mystique.
The majority of GTO buyers are going to be 30-40 somethings that like the idea of a tame looking sedan with a "Tiger In the Tank!" It is a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Explain to me what's wrong with this?

Only a little bias written into this poll?
The market dynamics have changed since the 70's and the 04 GTO is definetely the extension of what the GTO woud have evolved into. I personally love the styling of the car. Good designs don't need overagressive edges and scoops to look good (Benz SL500, early 90's RX7, Solstice, etc).

Perhaps we should also run a poll and ask what does a 1964-1967 GTO look way too much like?
The answers:
1. The 1964-'67 Pontiac economy car, Tempest or Lemans.
2. The 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix.
3. The 1964 Pontiac Catalina.
4. The 1964 Cadillacs.

If there was an ALL option on this poll that's what I would have chosen. But honestly, to change how I think about this car all Pontiac would have to do is add scoops, dual side exhaust, redesigned taillights and rear bumper, and maybe different styled rims.

The older cars seemed to look so much cooler than 90% of the crap-styled cars of today's market.

Perhaps, but all of these cars looked better than today's Cavalier, which is the car I voted the new GTO resembles.

For those of you that want a flashier design.... buy some racing stripes and wings for it. As for those of us that actually can afford one... less flash and more go please!
