Post Pontiac builds car for Vin Diesel???? Kinda long!

Ok they will build a new sports car to be in the second movie of XXX but what about f-body?? Could this help the cause or hurt it?? Also read the last line... auditioning cars to be KITT, come on... has to be a WS6 in my opinion!!

http://www.intelligentx.com/newslett...nt3_080202.cfm

Bosses at GENERAL MOTORS' PONTIAC division are so impressed by VIN DIESEL's new action movie XXX, they're designing a suped-up supercar for the sequel.

The film is a week away from release in America, but already film experts are expecting it to set the box office alight and end AUSTIN POWERS' run at the top of the movie charts.

And Pontiac whizzkids are hoping to cash in on the film's success by designing a new car for the 2004 sequel, which will also star Diesel.

A 1967 edition of the motor features heavily in XXX, and now Pontiac designers are hoping XXX will do for their sports cars what JAMES BOND has done for Aston Martin and BMW.

Hunky Diesel will debut the new Pontiac design at the NASCAR DAYTONA 500 race in 2003.

Meanwhile, bosses at REVOLUTION STUDIOS - the film company behind XXX - are currently auditioning cars to appear as an updated KITT in a big screen adaptation of 1980s TV show KNIGHT RIDER.

Sounds Awesome. Can't wait to see the movie, should be pretty kick ***. My bet is that they'll use a new GTO in the sequel, since he drives a classic GTO in the first XXX. Although it would be really cool if they designed a new Firebird/Trans Am for him. Although we know that isn't gonna happen. If the current 4th Gens would have gotten more publicity, they would have sold better in my opinion. A popular movie like this will help boost the sales of the car. How reliable is this source though?? The web page looked kinda weak?

It's extremely ironic you bring up the movie "XXX" today, because last night I got to go to a special press & public preview at the Gaslamp theater downtown last night. Though I felt the movie was a bit over the top at times (especially all the motorcycle chase scenes), it was nonetheless a really good, fast paced movie.

For you Corvette fans, there is a couple of really good scenes early on involving Vin stealing one from an arrogant uppity senator, followed by a chase scene & ultimately driving it off a bridge. Of course it's red (BTW, despite what is portrayed, it isn't in Sacremento).

For you old GTO fans, there is a really nice one that that serves as Vin's "aquired" car, that towards the end of the movie is fitted with enough "spy" stuff that would do James Bond proud. I can see why GM would be enthusiastic about including a vehicle in the next "XXX". Though the car never really steals the scenes, it still has "presence". Most all of the movie is shot in the Czech Republic, so it's kind of odd seeing a 65(?) GTO racing through villages & narrow curving country roads (GTO fans, when the movie ends, stay through the closing credits ).

It's a very fast paced movie, no nudity (sorry guys), and is actually pretty funny. It's a little long (a full 2 hours), but it's one of those few movies where you will look forward to the next installment.

BTW, Vin Diesel's an executive producer of "XXX", and it's easily his best fim yet.

Popular movies no doubt help good cars become hot sellers. After "Smokey & the Bandit" became a hit, Pontiac's Trans Am ALONE outsold the entire Camaro line, & Firebird continued to outsell Camaros till at least the 1 year of the 3rd gen. It also helped that Pontiac started making T/A
6.6 engines that in '77 were more powerful than the outgoing 455s, & in 78-80 outran Corvette 0-60.

If GM is only going to sell 18-20K GTOs in 2004, and they are going to be in the "XXX" sequel, I'm sure I won't be able to find one when I'm ready to buy.

18-20k units , is a very weary GM, testing the waters... I think that number will soon escalate when the buzz reaches fever pitch before its even available... wouldnt it be nice if production could begin in the states immediately after the first 20k.

More news:

In conjunction with NASCAR.com, America Online and Electronic Arts; Pontiac will offer NASCAR fans the opportunity to submit proposals for paint scheme for their pace car for the 2003 Daytona 500. Through an innovative online system, fans can begin sending in those submissions beginning Sept. 9.

Fans can express their creativity by electronically designing a complete pace car paint scheme on a three-dimensional model of the vehicle. No dropping your name and address in a box for this one, folks.

"Unlike most sweepstakes, this is really a contest of skill and creativity," said Kraut. "We know that NASCAR and Pontiac fans have a lot of enthusiasm and we wanted to tap into that passion for this new pace car."

Five finalists will be chosen from all of the entries, then fans will get to vote online for the favorite design. The five finalists will win a trip to the 2003 Daytona 500 to be part of a unveiling ceremony just before the race.

The winner will receive a special parade lap around Daytona International Speedway driven by Vin Diesel, star of the upcoming movie XXX.

Further details of the contest will be announced at a later date

Pontiac and Diesel are having a press conference here at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway tomorrow. This all seems legit and not a joke!

It finally seems that the "excitement division" is begining to come to life. Now all they need is to get the cars out to match the hype.

78-79 actually. The 301 Turbo was the top engine in '80.

How about giving us a mid-engine v8 Pontiac?
That is if the corvette can handle the competition. Pontiac has had exciting cars, their only problem is that they dont commit to them for the long term (11 year run on gto and 4 year run on fiero gt). Other companies would die to have a model like gto to resurrect, instead it takes GM almost 30 years to bring it back.(You guys need marketing help!) How can a company approve aztek before something as legendary as gto?

Incorrect Guion. There hasn't been a year since both 67 models that the Camaro hasn't outsold the Firebird every year.

General Motors is the largest ad buyer in the country and is expected to help expand the reach of the $30 million Columbia has earmarked to promote "XXX" with its own dollars.

Oh but there was never enough money to advertise the 4th Gens!

Yeah and no money to make them better or money for a 5th Gen either. Whatever.

True, but the 400cid "T/A 6.6" engine came out in 1977.

Side note: The 1977 T/A 6.6 made as much horsepower as the previous year's 455HO, and had a power increase the following year. Another TransAm engine of the day was the Oldsmobile 403, which was also a 6.6 (w/o the T/A designator) that was on all California & Automatic transmissioned cars.
