Pontiac GXP=Ford SVT
According to Lynn Myers (Pontiac-GMC general manager), GXP badged Pontiacs will be limited edition performance models of standard Pontiacs.
She expects to sell 5,000 Bonneville GXPs, 10,000-15,000 Grand Prix GXPs and 15,000 Grand Am GXPs per year.
Interestingly...she only expects to sell 1,000 Sunfire GXPs/year, due to price sensitivity at that level.
And what makes a GXP a GXP?
Most GXPs will have tire, wheel, suspension and brake enhancements. Each GXP will also have it's own front and rear fascias.

As soon as i read the title of this post the thought crossed my mind.... Ok Pontiac has GXP, Ford has had SVT, do u guys think Chevy will make the "SS" phrase sort of the same thing in a modern sense. I know the SS name plate has always seen an increase of performance at Chevy, but now as we see it on a wider variety of vehicles (trucks, SUVs, and so on.) could it be more of limited edition performance models of standard Chevy’s? You guys see where I'm going with this? It would make sense.
Pontiac GXP=Ford SVT = Chevrolet SS?

I may have jumped the gun alittle by saying GXP=SVT.
Although the Boneville will get a V8, the other GXPs may not necessarily get specific powertrains.
SVT, of course re-engineers the whole vehicle to meet their specs.
Specific engine, suspension, brakes, interior, exterior etc.
I don't think GXP will be as comprehensive as SVT.

sounds like WS6 to me. bigger wheels, better brakes, stiffer suspension is what WS6 was all about, but it appears they're trying to make it a uniform thing by applying the same moniker on all models. one thing though.. WS6 was about posi too.. oops, next theory.

That's pretty much the game plan.
SVT for Ford however, represents it's highest performing, most focused niche performance models.
BUT..........
Will Pontiac's halo car...the GTO...be eclipsed by a GXP? (Not likely)
Will the Corvette team toss out the Z06 emblem for a Corvette SS? (Not a chance!)
SVT represents the pinnacle of Ford performance...... GXP/SS may end up being mere marketing tools for GM.

Those will be the differences between SVT and GXP/SS

The exceptions are, of course, GTO & Corvette.
