A quick tidbit on Ford's new V8 engines.....

....... instead of being called "Hurricane", they will now be known as the "Boss V8s" .

Debut in 2008 in the new F series, then will move to both the Crown Vic and Mustang for the 2010 model year.

There is a special version Mustang still scheduled to wear the name in 2009MY, but it's my own opinion that isn't definate.

Hurricane sounds much better IMO.
Oh well, guess we'll see how they turn out.

I've been out of the loop, but do we know if they are OHC or OHV yet?

Hemi worked great for Dodge. Boss is a good name for Ford new and very powerful V8's. I can see "Boss 5.8" F-150's selling like hot cakes now, just like the Hemi Rams did.

Both are better names than Vortec (From a marketing standpoint)

Re: A quick tidbit on Ford's new V8 engines.....

Just speculation, but I would assume they would be ohc, as ford doesn't want to go "backwards" with the engine technology. Also a while back I remember some ford big wig stating that their run of the mill cars would be ohc, while the performance variants would be dohc, as far as the V8's are concerned.
They have learned alot with the modular plants, the new 3 valve heads are very well done pieces that rival some of the foreign manufacturers. Right out of the box they flow as good or better than a lot of the aftermarket windsor heads, not that their isn't room for improvement.

The F150 needs something bad... the current top level 5.4L just feels like a pig.

I've heard OHC 2 valve, but thats internet scuttlebutt, so take it at what its worth... However I dont see why they wouldn't be OHC, its much easier implement VVT that way.

One reason the name changed is because they will now be 6.2 L and under. This has been on the Corral for a while now.

I read that in an old Issue of Truck Trend, it was one of the reasons the new F150 was taken off my list of potential trucks. If i'm going to invest BIG money in a truck, it had better be able to do everything I need it to do. The Vortec engines have proven themselves time and again, and the new Hemi trucks also get high marks on everything but Fuel Economy. I'm actually looking at 3/4 Ton Diesel Trucks at the moment since I get the power and torque without sacrificing fuel economy. I haven't heard anything good about the Powerstroke Diesels, The Duramax i've gotten mixed reviews, and the Cummins Turbo Diesel is appearently the Holy Grail of Heavy Duty Diesel Engines. I've got a few months to make up my mind though, and to change my wife's mind as well.

Now on topic, I think Boss is a good name for the new V8's. In fact they should've brought it back in 2005 with the introduction of the new Mustang's. It will be really cool to see a BOSS Mustang vs. Camaro SS just like it was back in 1969.

I have to admit, I'd get over my GM bias in a second if I needed a diesel truck...the Cummins is a great, great engine...

The 5.9 is being replaced by a 6.7 version this year...should be interesting to see how it does.

Re: A quick tidbit on Ford's new V8 engines.....

Hurricane is a better name, but after last years Katrina and Rita, Im sure the marketing department doesn't a name with negative emotions attached to it.

"Ford's New Hurricane V8 has enough power to level a city"

On the otherhand many people don't have positive feelings for their Boss either.

" Ford's New Boss V8 has more power than that SOB at work that wont give you a raise"
