BTW, I'd say the Chevrolet Chevette Diesel was really far worse than the SSR. I can probally name at least a dozen more that make the SSR actually look like a brain of an idea.

 

Could they have made that CTS look any more slab-sided? How about some tumblehome on that thing? And what about those rocker panels - couldn't they have curved them under instead of having a right angle to the ground? Also, the car needs bigger wheels and tires. What the hell is with these 17" and 18" wheels on factory cars? They should be accomodating 20" rims on these cars.

As for the SSR, they should have shot that one in the head. This was one hell of a "me, too" vehicle for GM. Remember that when this thing first came out as a concept it was about the time the PT Cruiser was selling like mad. So GM had to show the world that hey, we can also build a retro car and do it fast. Well, here we are about 3 or 4 years later and the stupid thing is still not in dealer showrooms.

 

I agree with you on the proportions and lines of the CTS. It too has grown on me and i'm looking forward to the addition of the Ls-6 equipped V-series.

Maybe it was the hard edgy lines or the small looking chrome rims, but i wasn't crazy about the styling to begin with. The lines could be a little softer and the wheels bigger. Less boxy and more smooth is what i'm trying to get at.

The whole Cadillac line seems to have adopted this type of styling. They pulled it off nicely on the XLR, Cien, and Escalade, but they didn't execute it so well on the CTS.

 

Angles are what Arts & Sciences is all about. Some will not like it. If they rounded all that stuff off, it would lose the theme, IMO.

I will agree with you that the current 16" wheels look bad. I think the 17"ers look OK, though, and the CTS-V will have 18"ers.


I think 20" wheels from the factory, expecially on the regular model (non V-series) cars is getting a little out there... I mean, these are everyday drivers here... 17 and 18 inch is plenty good.

 

From what I remember, GM DID express interest in getting a WRX-type car, but Subaru didn't want to let go of that since it was the first car in a while that actually had people excited about Subaru.

If they could make them look like the Cien and Sixteen, however...

 

The CTS is a sweet looking car. The car needs to sit lower and eliminate some of that huge gap above the tires. It would change the proportions of the car noticeably. The other fix is a deeper looking wheel selection. That combined with a lowering would do wonders for the CTS.

 

I agree that the SSR is one hell of a crappy looking piece of machinery.

 

Isn't that gap a GM trademark

In Canada the SSR could hit a niche market in that as a truck, it offers tax benefits on the business side over cars, SUV's and extended cabs. I was initially excited about it but also lost interest because of power, weight, price and from what I've been led to believe, lack of any sort of tow rating.

 

SSR is Chevy's prowler...looks good, weak, and overpriced.
