I voted trunk mainly for a change of scenery.

Anddddddd the hatch/glass of a 4th gen is freakin heavy!!

Maybe the 5th gen can get closer to 3200lbs with me in it, ready to go.

If they could design the new car with a trunk that would weigh significantly less than a comparable hatchback design I wouldn't mind the trunk...

I voted Trunk.

For the following reasons;

1. I can’t stand how the whole hatch collects so much water whenever the car is washed or even when it rains. You open the hatch and it seems like the whole back end of the car is going to fill up with water. And gets everything wet that you have stored in the back. Not to mention that after you wash and wax the car then take it for a drive the car is leaking water for a good two hours after you start to drive the car. Thus leaving water spots all over the rear bumper and then collecting road dust on all those spots. AHHHHHHH!!!

2. Weight saving of the trunk over the hatch. I mean look at the amount of glass that is on the back of a 3rd/4th gen. Have you even lifted a hatch with no glass in it?? The glass alone is 2/3’s the weight of the hatch. I mean I almost got smacked in the face with the hatch, because the hatch shocks were only lifting 1/3 the weight when I opened it with out glass in it.

3. Structural integrity. Hey wouldn’t you want to have a car that is structurally sound and has a higher crash test rating. I mean I sure would if I were going to max out the car, take it to autocross, drag racing and just generally pushing the car to see what it can do.

Yeah, I know the water thing. Combined with the weight savings and structural rigidity, I guess I won't be too sorry to see it go. Aside from possible styling gripes, I know the benefits of the new car will certainly outweigh any benefits I saw from a hatch alone.
