East Coast Classic Cars - Help Buying a 1st Gen
Anyone know anything about these guys. They are in Lillington, NC (close to Raleigh) They have quite the collection of First Gens and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with them or had bought a car from them.
Here's one car that i'm interested in. I emailed for more info, but since i'm am i new to first gen's i was wondering if one of you guys with more experience could tell me how much the car might be worth, what to look for when evaluating it, what kind of questions to ask the seller, etc.

questions to ask
Is there any rust? Is there any original parts to it, engine ,tranny those will all depend on the value of the car. How many miles on the car, how many miles on engine, and tranny, and when were they rebuilt.

i'm assuming its a clone and paint looks fresh, i've enquired about the age of the drivetrain. If 16 is pricey what would be a more fair price. Would the guy laugh at me if i offerred like 13. Is there any sort of price guide on these cars?
Thanks for the responses guys.

I know the guy...I've seen his place. The cars he has there are mediocre at best. He asks a lot for the cars he has...even the ones that are crappy. I'd talk with him about it over the phone but if you are serious I would HIGHLY recommend you looking at it yourself. He won't tell you all that is wrong with the car...you'll have to find it yourself. If you do go and you want to buy it...try talking him down. He'll go down or offer you something else. He didn't impress me when I was looking for a 69. I went else where and got a better deal.
I'd say 13 is a high price for that car if it's a clone.
By the way I'm from Oxford, NC. Do you live nearby Lillington?

Thanks for your response (on this thread and the other one)
i would certainly inspect and drive a car in person before buying one.
Thanks for the info on ECCCars. The prices seemed a little high. I'll probably just wait for the right car to come along on ebay that isnt' too far away and then try to go see it before the auction ends.
I'm in Greenville SC, (an hour or so southwest of charlotte on 85)
Is there anywhere else that has a fair number of first gens for sale other than collector car trader and ebay?
Thanks!

I've found that most classic-car dealers price their cars way above market value and typically they have many more problems than they'll divulge.
You're better off going with a private seller, unless we're talking about a real rare or unmolested original car (what people in the industry call "survivors").
If the car is rust free and without problems, I'd offer him $10K (old drivetrain & older repaint) to $12K (new drivetrain & new paint). If he laughs. Walk away.

This is all assuming its a clone. How more is it worth if its a legit SS? I mean i've seen some clones that sold for 25k+ because they were show quality....so much more is a real SS worth?

IMO #'s matching 350 SS (original color) 15-20k; 396 SS 20-25k;
rs option add 5k; convertible add 5-10k, show quality add another 5-10k+
Since the car were talking about has Z/28 stripes and a cowl hood, if it was a real SS... 15k, 18k-22k if its the original drivetrain and color. IMO, If it had the correct SS hood and bumble bee stripe its worth more than as shown... assuming its a real SS of course.
Not that there's anything wrong with how its dressed up. My kid's plain Jane coupe is getting a similar treatment with a cowl hood and Z/28 stripes. After adding new trim, wheels and tires, our total investment should be less than $13K.
