Re: Scan9495: Free OBD1 scan app for 93/94/95 LT1
Injuneer,
Thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure I need anything yet. I have a 95 v6 on a test stand and am getting the 9495 program set up. I have it loaded on two laptops one running Windows 10 and the other VISTA. The program seems to come up fine on both.
I have ordered the parts to make the cable, they should be here tomorrow. If I get it together and it all works then I'm good. The only thing I am not sure about is in this thread it talks about loading the drivers for the cable ends and selecting the correct serial port. The program is only showing port 3 as a choice and I may need a little help finding and loading the drivers if that still needs to be done with the more modern operating system.
So short answer - nothing at this time while I wait and see if it is going to work, plug and play. If not then I may have some issues I could use some help with. Thanks for you offer and I will let you know.
Cheers Don

Which V6 do you have in your 95.... 3.4L or 3.8L? Both were available in 1995.
Have you downloaded the V6 version of the software?

Thanks.
I have downloaded it to my dropbox and will install it on my Windows 10 laptop when I get home tonight.
Do you think I am going to have to install cable drivers for the cable I am going to make per Gary's instructions? Or will Windows 10 handle it?

My knowledge of Scan9495 and it’s variations is limited to reviewing the data logs the system generates, and helping people find engine problems. I have never used it, because I replaced the factory PCM in my LT1 almost 20 years ago, with an aftermarket engine management system (MoTeC M48Pro) that has built in tuning, scanning and data logging capabilities.

If you are making your own cable and using the cheaper cable parts, I would definitely not let Windows install the drivers. Download the drivers from the same site as the scan9495 app and install them first. The newest drivers from FTDI will not work with the cheaper Chinese-made cable components. If you are using a genuine FTDI part (about $20), feel free to let Windows install them if needed.

Gary,
Thanks for your reply. I am anxious to try your great program. I have ordered the components to make the cable but just yesterday ordered a ready made cable that should be here Friday. I will wait and try it and see what happens. Based on what I have now seen on this thread I have hopes it will all work. Just took me several days to digest all the information that has been posted here over the years!
I'll do my trail and errors before I bother anybody here again and for the record will report the results.
Thanks Again Don

The ready-made cable should work with anything that Windows 10 can find.....but I would still install the drivers that came with the cable first.

Gary.
Love the program. Thanks
I just wanted to post that I made the cable per Gary's instructions. Found the COM port and plugged it into a Windows 10 laptop and it worked with no effort at all! I should also note that the ready made cable I purchased did not work. The make it yourself cable was cheap and easy to assemble. That is the way I would go.
