Street Manners

What's the best way to tune a PCM for better street manners. I'm using tunercat and have a good starting tune with the car. The motor is a stock motor with a cam in the 226 duration range and on a 112 lobe seperation.

I'm really just looking to get the low rpm buck (not bad though, my Hot cam was worse), and the problem with the motor dying on coast down coming to a stop.

My car is a '95 TA with an M6. I'm using tunercat to do my programming.

It's not that I can't read all the tutorials, just that quite a bit of them are theorectical. I need some practical information that I can use. Like what to watch for while logging data. How to adjust the car when I see the BLMS or other things out of whack. (what is out of whack anyway)

Sorry if this sounds too Noobee,
John

Engine dying on decel is probably IAC related (or possibly DFCO if that's been altered.) Watch what the IAC counts are doing (in Datamasters) when the engine dies. The IAC counts shown in should be somewhere around 30-100 at idle.If they're not ensure the throttle blade is completely closed (idle set screw), then see how many counts its gives to idle. If it's really high you may have to crack the throttle open a tiny bit with the set screw to bring the counts into range. You can also adjust how many counts the PCM calls for in the "Idle Park Position Vs. Coolant Temperature" table. You might have to increase the values in the "Throttle Follower IAC Offset Vs. MPH" table.

EastLa, +1 with the previous post. I also increased the 'Closed TPS Spark Advance' in the 400-799 and 800-1199 RPM ranges to lower the MAP (higher vacuum). I found a 200 RPM fluctuation when coming off closed throttle transitioning to the main spark table. Make sure your main spark cell entries near 800-1200 RPM and the idle MAP range don't take a big jump when you feather the throttle off of TPS=0% while cruising. The Throttle Follower IAC Offset mentioned above can be tested. Throw it in N or hit the clutch and coast to a stop. The PCM should hold RPM about +200 over idle setting at 12 MPH and slowly return RPM to idle setting as your speed slows to 0. Mine is an A4 and I ended up at 750 D / 850 P/N idle settings and it's drivable enough for my wife to use the car. As a sidebar I am not overwhelmed with my hot cam idle characteristics, very loopy for such a mild cam, took a lot of tweaking.
