INfo on timing, fuel mix, shift points, tarns line pressure, rpm limit to just a few are contaianed on a eprom chip in the pcm. You can d/l this info, change it and reburn the eprom.
Check out LT1edit and Tunercat, two of the more popular software programs for doing this.

Well, it depends on what type of PCM you have, FLASH or EPROM. FLASH has what are called flash chips in them, allowing them to be reprogrammed simply by plugging into the interface connector and running a program to do the reprogramming. Nothing to take out, no hands to get dirty.
EPROM requires that the EPROM chip be removed from the PCM, erased by UV light, and then reprogrammed through a EPROM programmer. Put it back in the car and there you go, you have a new program for you PCM. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, but they both get the job done.
