18" hurt 1/4 mile, how much?

Anyone know how much 18" rims hurt your 1/4 mile time vs 16"? Is it .1 or .2 or more like .5? Thanks

Not enough detail and way too general of a question to accurately answer. The heavier the rim/tire combo the slower it is. 18's are often heavy. A taller sidewall is good for launching as opposed to ashort sidewall. However a longer rollout can help ET's.

Assume that the same 60' can be achieved and that the only thing that hurts the time is the weight of the rims. Lets say they weigh 5 pounds more than stock. Does that help any?

Thanks

If you are simply talking about 5 pounds per rim on a 3600 pound car, the impact will be nill.

I found out that the 18" rims I have weigh 23 pounds. How much do stock 16's weigh?

It's been awhile but I believe stock '97 painted wheels run about 19-19.5lbs each. My C5 wheels weren't much different than my stock wheels, the 17s weighed exactly the same as the stockers and my 18s out back were about 21.5lbs each.

What you should be more worried about is how much the tire and wheel weigh compared to stock. Tires can vary by manufacture as far as how much they weigh. It can be +/- 5lbs (each) from one manufacturer to the next! Wheels play a part in the weight, but tires can play an even bigger role.

The front tires actually weigh 2.4 pounds less, and the rears are the same.
