92 Firehawk vs 97 SSLT4 vs 02 Firehawk
Now that the last F-bodys are gone I was just curious as to what car will go down as the fastest in the 1/4mile you could order at most any dealer(not special dealer editions)Looking back, those 3 stand out to me.I would love to see a shootout in GMHTP to decide so I'll just have to wonder with the info I have on them from Car and Driver,Moter Trend, and various web sites,so the numbers of course are with different drivers on different days etc.
92 Formula Firehawk coupe-350 V8,6spd manual,3.54 axle,3448lbs,350 hp,390 tq,1/4mile 13.2@108
97 Camaro SS LT4 coupe-350 V8,6spd manual,3.42,3510lbs,330 hp,340tq,315 rwhp,325 rwtq,1/4mile 13.2@109
02 Firehawk Trans Am coupe-346 V8,6spd manual,3.42 axle,3520lbs,320 rwhp,330 rwtq,1/4mile 13.3@108
I couldn't find any rearwheel rating on the 92 Firehawk but my guess is its right there with the the LS1,and LT4 with more torque, but all 3 cars had underrated horsepower and its funny how they are so close in accelleration and power with 3 different engines.I'm sure all 3 are capable of mid-high 12's@around 110mph with Dragradials good conditions etc. What do you guys think?

i think the turbo t/a's you are refering to are the 89's. unfortunately that was one more great concept taht gm never bothered to follow up on.
i think teh magazines tested them in the 13.7 range, but i think that is slower than they were really capable of. they tested brick grand nationals to be around the same et and gn's weigh about 150lbs more and have all the aerodynamics of your average barn door.
personally i would have to take the 92 firehawk. great power, a bullit proof tranny/rear, and kick *** banshee nose styling.

i just meant that they failed to take the idea and really run with it. they came out with a limited production car for one year that was hugely popular and then never did anything else with it.
most turbo pace cars in 89 were sold before they even got to the dealership. i think that is a pretty good sign they were onto something, maybe gm isn't so good with the obvious...lol

Nope, didn't forget about the 89 TTA,(one of my favorite alltime cars)they do run low 13's stock(Car and Driver got a 13.4@103 out of one)and with a little bit of work(chip, raise boost, downpipe, converter etc)mid 12's,but stock for stock its not in the same league as the other 3.Even though Pontiac underrated them at 240hp,(because of the corvette)they are closer to 300(The average one puts down about 250-260 at the wheels.A few years ago,I even pulled on one with my lightly modded 4+3 L98 Vette of which I used to get my a$$ hande to from the 6spd LS1 F-Bodys.Also,For the record, there was one 375+hp 92 Firehawk made with an aluminum engine which probably could be considered but it was not available at most any dealers,I guess if you include that car, then You would have to include the limited 427 Yenko Camaro's of the 60's and the LS1 Dale Earndhart intimidators, and Blackbird TA'S.To me its a tossup between the LT4 and Firehawk, then again the LS1's have run 12.7-12.9 so maybe only the guys at SLP no for sure.
