Re: Fastest 4L60E 10 Bolt car?
OK...I gotta get in on this...Atleast from the 4L60E aspect First of all, I'm the one that built Dirks (RACINLT1)'s transmission. I had NO doubt it could carry him into the 10's EASY. The output shaft snapping was a fluke. As for later 4L60E's being stronger??? A '94 60E is just as strong as an '04 60E They did make improvements to help the low/rev clutches last longer in '97, but it wasn't a real big deal...I can modify older units to achieve the same results with a .035" drill bit.
4L65E??? Yes, just in trucks, but we can use all the parts in a 60E. They have 5 pinion planetaries The thing that made the 700/60E 4 pinion planetaries fail 80% of the time was the bearing in the planetary going bad. The 5 pinion uses the SAME bearings! There's a LONG story behind this, but to make it short, GM has ALOT of problems with the rear ring gears shattering in the 65E's because they're not hardened enough. The sun shell uses a bearing, instead of a thrust washer like 60E's. Less drag...I used this set up in my 700. 65E's also have hardened output shafts...Unfortunately, these weren't available yet when I built Dirks
The 700, 60E and the 65E all have a large number of interchangeable parts. I use some 700 and 65E parts in the racing 60E's I build, and I use some 60E and 65E parts in the racing 700's I build. Call it a mutt or a hybrid...LOL. I use the best parts that each has to offer.
As for my personal car? '93 Z with a 700 and a 10 bolt...I plan on taking them both in the 10's with me when I get this nitrous crap sorted out

Re: Fastest 4L60E 10 Bolt car?
As long as you minimize the shock on them (auto tranny, good bias ply tires) you can help them out, They now make strong axels for them. I know a guy that has a 7.5 in his S-10 running 1.50s and 60s 60 footers, he added axels and a T/A diff cover with studd girdle and preload bolts. He's running GM 3.73 rear gears and an auburn Posi. (its about 7 or 8 years old now)

And, “OBDIICamaro” hasn’t returned to this site since April 2006.
