too bad they have it at Great Lakes Dragway, almost more dangerous the then street... that track condition is terrable there, i know of a few people who have died there due to a poorly kept track. Also the reason my racecar never sees track time there!

A much better track thats not far from it is Byron Dragway(in byron illinois) Not only is it SAFE! its cheaper and a lot faster of a track, the place is always preped real good and the people there are 100X nicer then at GLD..

anyone wanting info on Byron Dragway lemme know im there most every weekend along with alot of the other members from this board

Byron =

BYRON???

The track that is only open 2 days, has to close when the sun sets, with staging lanes that are on a hill, that has to CRAM a bracket race in so people who are there for T&T have to wait all day to make a pass, that doesnt have a PRO TREE staging lane, that has LINES sooooo long that people WORK on their cars *IN* the staging lanes so they dont lose their place in line, and (worst of all) you get to hear the announcer YELL at everybody about stupid things not to mention saying the SAME WORD 52 times in a row, where your burger is cooked on a 55 gal drum thats cut in half, and where the roof of the tower is about ready to fall in?

Oh yeah...thats a great place!

*I* know who has or has not died at GLD and YOU are full of BS!

Lol i know over 5 people who have crashed there due to poor track conditions and one who has died personally and heard of a few others. Byron is only open 2 days a week because of county laws, which are about to chage along with the track layout.. staging lanes will be 2x as long. A line is a line, every track will have long lines if theres alotta people there, only 2 cars can go down the track at a time. And if u go on a day where theres a big race the test and tune people dont get near as many runs (same as all tracks) This announcer you talk about (ron leek) the person who invented bracket racing and used to work with brodway bob is awesome.

GLD is not a track you want to run any faster then 9.00's on that shut down area is mighty bumpy at 150+

you dont need to get all bent outta shape im just saying ive been to both tracks many many many times and alot of other tracks. Most People on the IHRA circut have nothing but bad things to say about GLD and good about Byron.. i dunno about the street drags people, but im saying what i know and have experinced..

No need to get upset

#1 In the last 7 years...who died?

#2 Have you ever raced at Byron at night?

#3 I'm not mad ,Just tired of people who DONT know how to set up their car complain about NOT hooking at GLD.

It looks like it hooks to me...these guys know how to set their cars up.

8.10@160+

7.90@170+

Me, when I still had a small block

Still hook'n......

That and people who SAY they saw/knew someone who died there....Question: In the past 7 years, how many people have died at GLD? and who were they?

GLD has 5 and 6 second@ 200+MPH Funny Cars that get down the track JUST FINE.

How do you back up a bogus claim like GLD's Track prep sucks when the evidence shows different?

I dont care if you prefer Byron over the grove (to each his own) But, dont make those kind of remarks when you CLEARLY have no idea what you're talking about.Because *I* have personally PREP'd that track myself.

IF you ever come to RSD you better have good axles...thats all I have to say.

i never once said the track didnt hook, i dont like stopping my car at 165 on that shut down area... too bumpy and too many pot holes (last year anyway)

cant race byron at night cuz its against the law there.. that is being change VIa Bill bader(im sure you know who that is) and hes getting it all worked out. I know alot of the big time sportsman racers dont like the shutdown area.. all im saying.. again never said it dosent hook.. going anything under 120 im sure the shutdown is fine.. especally on a car with a suspension

all im going by is my personal expericence

and id appreciate if ud lay off the personal digs i was just stating my opinon
"dont make those kind of remarks when you CLEARLY have no idea what you're talking about."

Clearly i wasnt talking about hooking i was talking about stopping.. Stopping is more of a saftey issue

Im not trying to turn people away from your events in any way shape or form, for street set up cars even full bodied cars GLD is perfectly fine, i was stating i personally dont like it and that alotta members meet at byron from time to time.. thats it..

sorry...I wasnt trying to start a war. just a friendly debate (nothing personal).

Now, *IF* you have a car that goes 165 MPH you should have a chute. *I* have a chute and have NO problem stopping when I use it.

PLUS, GLD announced (at the banquet) that the shut down area will be re-paved this year along with adding concrete guardrails...starting at the finish line and working back to the starting line. ALSO the track will be widened by 4 feet (each lane).

so...They know whats going on and they are fixing it as time and money allows.

Either way RSD is gonna ROCK this year and I hope to see ALL of you there.

Come by and say hello...I'm easy to find.

Hey, thanks for that video, pretty cool. The street is no place for racing and that track helps a lot, no matter what the conditon of it. It must be halfway decent, otherwise it would be closed, right?
After seeing the big boys run last weekend at Pomona-Winternationals, I am finally starting to realize how dangerous a sport this really is.
