New best today at Byron with the Vig 3200!!

Well today I decided to race my car as it was only about 65 degrees out today and the cars were flying. Well previously I wasnt getting the 60's or ET's that I had been wanting but that was due to the heat we had. But today is where it really shined. For those of you wondering, I previously HAD the OBD1 shifting problem but that was fixed by Bryan at PCMFORLESS. So after that was fixed, I have been getting better results with everything. Here is how the day turned out----

#1 #2 #3 #4 #5
RT .609 .697 .610 .611 .633
60' 1.80 1.82 1.88 1.80 1.77
1/8 ET 8.47 8.51 8.61 8.46 8.41
1/8mph 80.09 80.15 80.46 81.01
1/4 ET 13.37 13.42 13.50 13.34 13.24
1/4mph 100.58 100.4 100.78 101.01 101.94

As you can see from the runs, the car ran the best on the last run. I attribute this to the air getting better and I also iced the intake for a couple of hours. The runs #1 and #2 were ran back to back, and so were #3 and #4. Between those to sets of runs, I ice the intake for about an hour or so each time. I ran the BFG DR's at 16psi every run, brake torqued to 2000rpm or so, and then launched. The burnouts were done in the water and that gave me the best results. Andthe race weight of the car with me in the car was 3725 lbs. The guy who I go racing with has a rather fast car too. Hehas a 1998 or 1999 Dodge Avenger EX Prostock car with a Indy Cylinder heads 572 with Direct Port Nitrous. He is only shooting 125 shot and he ran a 7.69 @178 and then a 7.64 @ i think 180. It runs very well. Well if you have any questions just post and I will reply sometime tomorrow.

Kevkop,

Yes Bryan at PCMFORLESS has a fix for the shifting problem. He said it works on some cars and doesnt on others. I have had this since april now and it works great. I posted back in April about it and I was given alot of crap about it becuase everyone said I was not getting fast enough 60's for my car not to shift into 2nd gear. SO I deleted the post and decided that since no one liked the info I gave them, oh well. But it works now and I cant thank PCMFORLESS enough.

Andy,

My car rides alot better now that your not in my backseat . I thought you wouldnt have the net this matert this week????

Andy,

I dont know if we will go out on friday night or sat night as when I come home on friday I still have to mow the park, and switch the wheels, and wash it and wax it AND polish the wheels. So IMO I think sat would be a better night. We can watch sundays events at my house or his house. Atleast at my house I know the VCR wont eat the tape . I guess no one else cares about the fix I have for the Vig3200 . Oh well

I too have had the obd 1 shift problem after going to a 3200 stall. As others have stated, usually it only shows up on an extremely hard launch. With my car it started at sub 1.66 60' times. I believe this is the main reason why the fix seems to work on some cars and not others.I think some of the cars just haven't hit that barrier yet. But this is just my belief. I have since gone back to the 2800 stall and have experienced the problem only a couple times since. I pray for a fix because my car sorely needs a higher stall. The last time I had the problem ,I pulled a 1.64 60' and it killed what possibly could have been my first 11 second pass. Good luck.

Great times! What were you running without the converter? Do you HAVE to do a burn-out with the DR's so they'll hook? Any idea how long the BFG's will last with track use only? I'm looking at either a set of BFG's or Nittos. Thanks!

Nice runs. So when are you going to get some headers?

since brian is friggin' lazy and i live 5 minutes from him, i'll answer for him. he's gonna be doing headers during the winter apparently during/after some motor work. it's gonna be quick.

Sorry about not replying lately guys. Over the weekend I was wokring on my dads street/drag chevelle, and this week at school I didnt get the internet back until today. But anywayz

euforia51,
Without the converter and gears I was running 14.0 to 14.2 at around 97-98mph, depending on weather. Allthough I did run one 13.97 in the fall a couple years back. So basically I have dropped 8 tenths and gained about 4-5 mph with the swap. With the BFG Dr's, I would recomend doing a burnout. If you dont do one, plan on not getting traction. As how long they will last, well thats hard to say. I have made about 35 or so passes on them (larger burnouts that normal), and probably at least 1500 road miles on them. And now they are a slick. NO tread on them whatsoever. So the life will depend on how you drive them. And I drove them hard, many street burnouts, probably 100 or so practice launches etc. This season will be the last of them and ET Drags are next.

americanmusscle,

I wont be doing headers until this winter. Right now I am away at school during the week, so I wont have time till winter break. ANother reason why I am waiting till winter is that the heads will be coming off then because I will be doing a heads/cam swap. I will be going with a big Comp Cams solid roller, ported heads..........yada yada yada. So I figure no point in installing the headers twice, just do it once. I still have some weight reduction left to do this fall and I am hoping to maybe get a 12.99 out of it. Well sorry again about not replying earlier.

8 tenths is one hell of a gain for a single mod! I just ordered some Nittos and hope they can hook up or I am going to be very... ummm... upset! I was going to go for the BFG's but there is a guy on here with an 11-second LT1 who had great success with them... so why not... besides they're a little cheaper. And quit apologizing for the lateness of the post(s)... some guys never reply at all! Thanks for the info!

I totally agree with Dave and figure once you guys with the 3200-plus stalls start getting sub 1.65 short times you will be in the same boat. Atleast that is what I get from everything I've read on here and is why I went with a 2800 converter. Until you hit 400 crank horse or real low gears you might be okay with a 3200 stall.
Of course I'm talking about OBD 1 cars
