question on racing

i was just wondering if you guys with autos run your cars in drive or overdrive? My car is stock and i don't know which is better. Or do i drop it into first and shift it going down the track?

IMO I would put it in drive (not overdrive) and just let it shift. Pretty hard to outshift a computer. I would use drive just to make sure it didn't accidently shift into overdrive while racing.

As for mine I have to shift.

If your foot isn't all the way in it, it may shift into OD. But if his foot isn't all the way in it, get off the track.

Sorry, I bracket race. There are times when I lift a little and "walk" just in front of the other car across the finish line.

Please correct me if i am wrong but i thought drive was only good for speeds up to i am guessing 55mph? i dont have the owners manual with me at my computer. So you guys are saying that if you have the car in Drive instead of Over drive it will be faster?

Well, not really. Keeping the trans in DRIVE prevents the trans from engaging overdrive prematurely. While in drive and the gas pedal is all the way down; the car will run threw the gears perfectly. If the trans is in Overdrive and you keep the pedal all the way down, the car SHOULD act the same (as in drive). But if you let up a little bit while in Overdrive, the trans could shift into "overdrive" and you can kiss all your engine rpms GOODBYE.

Just keep it in drive for the run and when you cross the finish line....let off the gas and shift to overdrive. Then gently pump the brakes.

Happy racing.

Thank you, just got one more question because my last tranny was jumpy on my 95. If i were moving at like 80 per say and i shifted from D to OD it woudl cause no problems? Just wondering, the last car was a 3.4L but it would lurch and jump.

THANK YOU

I think that 93's (like the posters) have 700r4s not 4l60e's. If I'm right then its not computer controlled. I don't know if this changes if you should shift yourself or not, but maybe someone else can let us know?

It still doesn't change the procedures I recommended previously.

Camaroguy22...NO it will not be a problem. In fact, your car will want to shift up at that point anyways. You'll be fine.
