Rear End question

Will my rear end blow??? haha....I know you guys have heard this a million times....

Here is my set-up

heads, cam, LT's, rear-end cover, well used Center Force clutch, full suspension etc etc, and condering NITTO DR's

I'm making about 355rwhp

It's an M6

This poll will help me deside if I should buy the Nittos

thanks

Andy

With a M6, drag radials, and 350 hp, it's as good as smoked... maybe not immediately, but it will go sooner or later (and my bet is sooner). There will always be the guy that has had his 10 bolt live with a M6 and decent power, but for everyone one of those, there are at least a 100 people who have broke their rear end.

I broke mine trapping 105. Cut one 2.0x 60' and chunked 4 spider gear teeth.

I wouldn't go back on DRs+ until I had a 12bolt/9".

Ditto Derrick =

It was living on borrowed time on DR's with a stock engine.

The question isn't will it break, but when will it break. And that question is almost impossible to answer.

break the rear i have 3 10 bolts you can have that just need gears

I don't think it will hold if you are harsh on the car. Major thing is if you get wheel hop it is history imo no matter what hp level. I think that is one of the reasons that the m6's break so much is the shock they give.

Well put.

It could last you a long time or not. I know guys on bone stock F-bodies who broke it their first time out with a 6 speed. Its the shear shock of dumping the clutch that breaks em. In an auto it can last a long time. M6, your on borrowed time no matter how much power you make.

Cool

Everyone, EVERYONE has said I am gonna break my rearend!

Well 7 + years later. up to a 4.56 gear ratio and 11.61 @118.XX, it lives!

Of course I have an A4 but when you add in the torque multiplication of a good converter??!!

Going back down to 4.10 gears (Nitrous demands this) and putting in a welded up open carrier to make a spool. We'll see how this works out this year. Oh yeah tires? Hoosier D05
10-28-15 slicks, 1.55 short time

Some live, some don't! Good luck and don't let the Nitto's worry ya!!

Having the stock rear end live under a 11 second A4 car is no big deal - I've even seen a 10 sec A4 f-body with the stock rear. An M6 will beat the rear MUCH more than an A4 car ever would... no way you can even compair the two.

If the Centerforce doesn't break or start slipping bad... it'll break.

Personal experience:
a) Street Twin + Nittos + sticky track = broken spider gears
b) Street Twin + Nittos + HIGHWAY SHOULDER = broken spider gears

sad part is, A and B were only 7 months appart. <rollseyes>

Saving for 12-bolt at this time.

The fact of the matter is NOTHING under 8.5" rearends should have been put under these cars be they (especially M6) or A4.

That being said, probably half of the 8.5" ers would have broken too. You cannot give a young or old hot rod kid a 6 speed car and not have parts fail along the line.

Do your planning BEFOREHAND and buy the tranny/rearend combo
that best suits your intended purpose and treat it with respect, if not... it WILL punish you!

How many of you are running an M6 w/nittos, and a basically stock motor, no headers or gears? I have about 15 passes on nittos dropping the clutch at about 2k. How much time do I have?
