Post To stay on the street or not to stay street ...that is the ??

Hey Guys,
I was wondering what any of you guys would do. I'm sure some of you have already done this. Well ,I'm in the process of installing a 12-bolt in my '93 and I've add a few other little goodies to it since the last time I had at the track back in October of 2001. Since then , alot of things has changed in my life ,but thats another story. I have a 2002 SS and a nice 2002 LT Silverado Z71 truck. I'm thinking about taking my '93 off the street and making her a trailer queen. What do you guys think ? The disadvantages....can't drive to the store anymore. Can't go for a Sunday cruise when I it have nice and clean anymore. The advantages..no more sneaking around for inspections , no insurance , and always ready for the track. Also ,no more worries if something going to break when driving anywhere. All I need now is a trailer and I will be set. I love the idea of having the best of both worlds ,but sooner or later ,for a drag racer , I know I'm going to have to choose.

If you have the resources, a trailer car will normally be far more consistent than anything driven on the street. I guess it really depends on your ambitions and how serious you are.

I'll take an 11 sec street car over a 10 sec trailor queen any day. Just my opinion though.

Came into some $$$?

Anyway, the 4th gen is not a great platform for a race car. If you want a race car get something different. Just IMHO.

IMO, make it nasty, but keep it streetable. Keep the 02 SS the dependable cruiser but make the 93 the "bad seed." That way you can roll up to the scene thumpin' and lopin' and attracting all the attention a "bad seed" gets. People admire nice lookin' cars but the crowd ALWAYS runs to the cars makin' a bunch of racket and barely idling.

I like seeing cars drive in, run low 11's and drive away. Most anybody can pull one there and run 11's, but seeing someone drive in and out run the tailered race cars, now thats fun.

I'd keep it a street/strip car.

good point, but what if some little old lady or some young punk decided to run a red light or a stop sign and slam into my '93 ? Then all of my money is gone down the drain. You see ,driving a 11-second car on the street is fun , but the loss is much greater if and when something goes wrong. But it's chance we all take.

Cool

Love a street strip car here.

Besides that same punk/old lady can still hit your trailer and total the car

Trailer it!!

Street strip cars are generally slow race cars or awful street cars. Before anyone slams me, take a look at some of the MPH's posted on this forum. A lot of the cars should be a lot quicker than their time slips show.
Another thing to note, you don't have to worry about getting your pride and joy home if you break it.

I like a street/strip car also. Keep the trailor for the long trips but keep the car streetable for local cruzin'. If cost of insurance and emmissions tests are an issue then by all means make it into a weekend warrier. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Gump is right on! Can your 11 sec. "street/strip" car do this?

Rich I can't believe you said that! What do you mean a 4th gen won't make a good race car?

Skip: I am not saying it can't be done, just that there are some problems. The problems can be overcome, and any street car that you make into a race car will have some. But there are a large number with a 4th gen. To list a few: too heavy, poor weight distribution, limited choice of heads for LT1 and high cost of available heads (ditto LS1), fragile transmission, fragile rear end, lack of aftermaket blocks, crowded engine compartment, etc.

I am strongly considering a "real" race car. To me that means a tube frame. If you take a stock body style and adapt it to a tube frame, then it really isn't the same car. I am not sure what body style the car will have if I go ahead with it, but even if it has a 4th gen Camaro body, it won't be a 4th gen "Camaro" any more.
