Vig. 3600 or 3800 stall Help

Well I went to the track with my new heads cam set up and the best 60 foot I could get was a 1.765, this is with the vig. 3000.

With bolts on's I was getting 1.78 60's so I am alittle dissapointed. The track was hooking so I dont think my 60's are going to get any better.

So my question is will the 3600 or the 3800 stall get me down into the 1.6's, 1.5's that I want. I know it may not shift into second but I will worry about that when the time comes.
(I have the cc306 and PP heads)

I would definately go with the 3800 b/c the 306 is a pretty big cam for an auto. I run the little Hotcam and will soon send my 2800 off to go 3800. I too only run 1.74 60's naturally aspirated. But on Nitrous I ran 1.63's so with the restall I will run 1.6's on motor and 1.5's on the spray. Later

You need more stall! Where does your cam start to make power?
you should get a 3500 at least and go up from there.

I was able to pull low 1.7s with just my set up and the Yank ST3500, i put all my 'success' in the TC.

I would think that you could manage better 60's with the 3000 you have. I have a 2800 with the mods in the sig and pulled a pair of 1.68 60's the other night. Are you foot braking it or just stomping it. I just bring up to about 1200 and mat it on the 3rd light. Either way with the bigger stall you should see better 60's and 1/4 mile times.

Later Jason

What I would look at our simple things. Difference in weather? Track prep? Tire psi any different? What tire? Maybe the tire before was working before, but now you have more power it simply over powers them? Different launching rpms?

Does it feel down on power at lower rpms? I have always thought that the general rule on a street car is 3000 rpm below your shift point. With a drag car, 2000 rpm.

What gears are you running? Any suspension mods?

Another simple question, is it hooking? If it is not now, it will probably be worse with more stall.

Same tire (et streets)
Same weather if not better.
Better track condidtions.
I was hooking from what I could tell and from what my friends told me.
I will be shifting at 6,600 to 6,800 in first gear so I guess I m good.
I have v 6 rear springs and sfc's, I have seen many f-bodys pull great 60's with stock suspention.

All I want to do is go fast.

3.73 gears

All I want to know is will I be able to pull 1.6, 1.5 60's with the 3,800 stall hooking..... if I have to I can always get bigger tires.

I can only get this thing restalled once so I want to do it right.
I can alway do suspention mods ect.
My car is only going to get faster....
I should be traping at least 93mph in the 1/8, that should give ya an idea of how much hp I have.

Thanks for your help/ input.

If your going to be spraying off the line, a lower stall will make very good use of the tq that n2o generates.

Bingo on what Canton said about spraying...

I know it's really hard to tell if the car is hooking or not.
I was in the high 1.6's (1.68-1.69)to low 1.7's one night and out of the blue I knocked off a 1.64. I can tell you that it felt dang good to. Getting the car to hook good is hard to do at times.

There is alot of variables at play. I would think with the setup you have you should be getting in the 1.6s now. Have a friend video tape your launch from behind, this way you can tell for yourself what the car is doing.

But if you want to restall it I would not go any higher than 3600 with the spray. Go higher without the spray. (3800).

What's strange is the LT1's seems to me does not like a real high stall vs the LS1's.

Put the car on a dyno. Send the dyno sheets to a converter guy. Have them figure out what stall is optimum for your setup.
