Well...My first track times EVER!!!

...Well, I went to the track tonite for the first time ever!!! We went to the local 1/8 mile track. I went with my buddy who has an '03 Cobra. Well, here they are. It was quite fun. I was pretty nervous for my first two runs, but then I settled down. I couldnt get any traction out of the hole though.

Run 1 Run 2

1.054 R/T 0.788

2.432 60' 2.562

83.33 MPH 85.07

9.340 E/T 9.393

Run 3 Run 4

1.128 R/T 1.218

2.467 60' 2.536

83.33 MPH 84.59

9.438 E/T 9.389

Well, give me your input on this? Am I crazy slow? I started trying to work on my launch and not concentrate so much on my R/T, but I couldnt cut the 60' times down as you can see. Give me some advice.

BTW, my buddy was running 8.060 and 8.085.

Awesome reaction times

Just kidding.

I found the best way to launch my car (M6) with street tires was to slip the clutch from about 2500rpm. It still takes some practice but you can't dump the clutch with street tires. Too low of an RPM you'll bog out, too high you'll spin. Typically my 60ft times on kumhos are in the 1.9x to 2.0x range

You like those???

Yeah I sat there and adjusted my radio, turned off my ASR, pushed the clutch in and put the car in gear all before I launched!!

Well, what should I be running with the mods that I have? I really dont have any idea. I did have a good time though.

Well, with you mods 8.9's or 9.0's shouldnt be a problem. Those cars are capable of 8.9's bone stock. Launching plays a major role in drag racing. It would also depend on how cold it is in your area. It is super cold here and my car spins like crazy on the street. But I have a few more mods!! Good luck.

Thanks guys...

...I figured that was my answer. I thought that my ET's would drop considerably with a good launch. I really need to go back and work on the launching part. I will be back there in a couple of weeks. It is hard when that green light drops, to not just stomp on the gas. I need to find the happy median that will allow me a good launch and still allow me to hook. What about air pressure? Will that help me some? Thanks again. I have a feeling that I am now hooked!!!

NickFL- I good general rule of thumb is that for every .1 off of your 60ft it is about .2 off your 1/4 mile et. Or for every .1 off your 60ft it is good for about .1 off your eigth mile time.

I feel you about the traction problems man. I have 4.10 gear and on street tires those are the 60fts I get. Your times will drop dramatically when your 60fts go down.

What mods does the 03 Cobra have? What 60fts was he getting? And what was his mph?

The Cobra...

He was cutting pretty much 2.0 60'. He was having hop issues, and a couple of his runs he totally fell out. He is pretty heavily modded. Here is his list...

amazon racing 6lb lower
amazon racing 3.10 upper
amazon racing wheel hop kit
amazon racing flip diablo
php CAI
accufab tb and inlet
3" qmp stainless exaust, no cats
1 5/8 qmp headers
315 nittos
mm caster/camber plates-chrome
mm full subs
mgw handle
column boost setup
denso iridiums

He is running a lot of boost.

Btw, I know that I better get to a point where I can cut some nice 60' times right now, because I do plan on 4.10's at some point.

I can see you are now hooked. Congratulations and welcome to the addiction that is drag racing. Sounds like you had a great time.

Your ET's and reaction times look like mine my first couple of times at the track. It didn't take long before I was ordering some drag radials, shifter, cold air and headers. When I first started the drag radials and shifter were the most help for my launching becoming good enough with a stick to start getting my ET down.

Ask questions and keep going. Thanks for the post. It is great to remember those first times at the track.

well, people have run high 12s with a car like yours, but the avg is prolly more around low 13s. but with those 60s and 1/8 times, your more in the neighbor hood of low 14s. this was your first time so you obviously werent going to drive like jon force or anything, but with more practice youll get the hang of things. you should be able to cut around mid 8s with your car.

i would try and concetrate more on launching and getting your ETs to an optimal point. the only thing light is good for is bracket racing basically. pretend the light isnt even there and just leave whenever yor comfortable while your still learning.

good luck and congrats on your first experience with americas OTHER great past time, dragracing!

From the mph you are running, your car should be capable of 8.4s in the 1/8 pretty easily. Work on that short time! Good luck man.

You got some good MPH there, you need to work on you traction and get that 60' time down.
