1994 4l60e in a 1997 z28
I recently dropped an lt1 from a 1996 in my 1997 30th Z28 just to find out my transmission wouldn't move in forward or reverse gears. The backup lights come on, it stays parked when put in park. Forward or reverse gears act the same as neutral.. though it will only start in park or neutral. I had a friend tow it for me for roughly 350 miles. He used a dolly and didn't remove the driveshaft. So it doesn't work anymore as it was intended. I digress. I found a guy who has a working 4l60e and 2 torque converters all for $120. I know it's not going to be plug and play. Can I just swap out my valve body, internal wire harness and tailshaft and go for it? I have the Haynes manual, but it has 0 on this subject. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

This reliable source appears to say you can’t use the 94 4L60E (switched lockup) in place of the 96/97 with pulse width modulated lockup. You could use a 95 with the noted Internal modifications.

Thanks Injuneer. I'm sure that this is gonna be a ridiculous question...... can I use the pump off the 94 on my 1997? Money is tighter than a frogs bottom. I don't know if I don't ask. Thanks again Injuneer

Wish I could help, but details of the workings of auto trans internals are “above my pay grade”. The full manual, reverse pattern (no brake) TH400 in my Formula is the first auto trans I ever had in a performance car. My engine builder had a reliable source and I put my full trust in him.
